The Mark Lane Express, the English authority on agriculture and commercial matters, thus plains the present depressed state of the wheat market: Wheat, home and foreign, has been in small demand during the past and prices for this and all grains have given way slightly. A continuance of the mildness on the Continent as well as becomes the more treachery as our already too far advancing winter growths are encountered while the tree arrivals of flour only delay the inevitable haustion of stocks, which, in Europe are comparatively insignificant. Both holders and buyers are, in these circumstances, indifferent to immediate business, the focus relying on the coming scarcity against which there is little food beyond the stores of Maples. As regards English wheat, critical point is the blooming season which, as usual, depends on variable weather of this country; the weather is, as usual, considered only in being extraordinary. The quantity of wheat on passage equals that of last year at the responding period, and full arriving during the next two months may fairly anticipated. Should frost in its effect upon the values we be modified by these circumstance and with a genial temperament throughout the greater part of week, the depression in prices increased. In most of the leaf markets of the kingdom wheat declined 15 per quarter. Coast goes have given way in some rather more, and wheat on pastry or for shipment has met extra fair buyers. The flour trade responded, and with sellers a per sack and 6 per barrel money sales have been hardly client to establish quotations.
Max Adeler says: Bottle will never dive into the creee save another woman from drowning. He saw a redbaired girl n Sparks tumble in the other play boat, and he instantly plunged after her, caught by her dress swam to the shore with her, soon as they were on the dry Miss Sparks gave a hysterecram, flung her arms about trebury's neck and fainted. The father came up with rest of the family, and perceived the situation, he dashed up to trebury, grasped his hand and "Take her, my boy," take her! hard to give her up. It wren her old father's heart; but she yours! Bless you my children; you." Then Mrs. Sparks cried said she hoped Harriet would happy. The little sparks managed their emotion by climbing Bottlebury's legs and pulling coat tails, while Harriet came to laying her head on his shoulder whispered, "Kiss me, dark Bottlebury, amazed and indigent bums self away and fled.

AGRICULTURAL SELECTIONS.
Unole Sam has under cultivation, at Maro Island, 270 acres of wheat, 30 acres of barley, 65 acres of alfalfa, and 47 acres of wild oats.
The Alden fruit preserving establishment at San Lorenzo put up 400 tons of fruit last year, and will increase the figures this season.
Chicago had packed 1,500,000 hogs up to the 1st of February, and at last accounts the porkers were still marching into the scalding tub in solid columns.
The total amount of wheat in the hands of producers in the States of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota and Ohio is estimated at 58,000,000 bushels.
By the tables published in the Report of the Department of Agriculture, it appears that the average yield per acre of corn in California was 41 bushels; being 6 bushels more than any other State in the Union. Wheat averages only 13 bushels; rye, 20; oats, 30; barley, 26½, and buckwheat, 25½.

As they were on the dry land parks gave a hysterical lung her arms about Botneck and fainted. Just his father came up with the same family, and perceivingion, he dashed up to Botnrasped his hand and said: "my boy, take her! It is give her up. It is now safe to say that if the present prospects of the grain crop of the State are realized, the wheat crop of 1874 will be the largest ever harvested. We shall, therefore, need more vessels than ever before to carry it away. These facts cannot too soon be sent abroad over the commercial world so as to turn the heads of owners of vessels this way.
We find the following in the Sutter Banner: The policy of always laying in a good supply of choice hay is very well understood by our farmers just now, and we hope not one will hereafter have cause to regret not having an ample supply put up, and well covered too, in addition to their straw. It is a reproach upon the fame of our California farmers to go through the country and witness the half-starved, bump-backed, seraggy, gaunt, raw-boned specimens of cattle on this and that farm. This should not be, and it is a dead loss to the farmer who allows his stock to go thus neglected.
The farmers of Sutter county anticipate large grain crops this year, and are thus early agitating the question of building storehouses of their own, on the railroad and river. They have an incorporated company in that county, called the "Farmers' Cooperative Union of Sutter county," and it is proposed that sufficient stock be subscribed to put up all necessary storehouses. This Union made a good saving to the stockholders last year in the purchase of sacks, and their success encourages them to take another step in the right direction.
J. S. Phillips, of Sacramento county, gives the following result of the experiment of a neighbor, concerning the corn worm: Previous to the two last years, his efforts at raising corn for table use, and more especially the sweet corn, were almost an entire failure. Being advised by a friend to soak his corn in water in which some salt-peter was dissolved before planting, he tried the experiment, and was agrecably surprised to find his crop comparatively free from the worms. The next year he met with nearly the same success. He uses the
