Senator Bush has introduced a bill providing for the appointment of an additional Notary Public for Los Angeles county.
Gov. Booth has vetoed the bill increasing the salary of the Superintendent of Public Schools of Los Angeles county.
The epizootic has made its appearance in New York and other Eastern cities, as well as in Oregon and some of the territories.
There was a very serious fire at Panama recently. The loss is estimated at one million of dollars covered by insurance.
San Diego river changed its course in the month of March 1835. Prior to that time it flowed into False Bay.
A petition is in circulation in Stockton, praying that the Irish language may be taught in the public schools.
One thousand three hundred and eighteen vessels were lost on the lakes of the United States last year, worth with cargoes, $4,000,000.
The Director of the San Francisco Mint has advised that 250,000 new trade dollars will soon be dispatched from New York to London.
The city of New York contains 7,322 drinking saloons. The population is about one million, and there is one saloon to every 136 inhabitants.

A Yolo man offers to give three acres of land, worth at least $500 per acre, to any company or man who will establish a woolen factory in Woodland, upon the land so donated.
The yield of small grain will be larger on the Guadalupe in San Luis Obispo, in proportion to the number of acres sown, than any other ranch in the State. It will only require one thousand men to harvest that crop.
The Senate of New Jersey has voted to appropriate $100,000 in aid of the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. The Philadelphians expect, and are trying their best, to obtain $6,000,000 from the United States Government.
An acre of lucerne has been known to keep five cows and three horses in fine condition from May until the end of October, and but a few square rods will keep a suburban family well supplied with milk and butter during the same period.
Mr. Wood has introduced a bill in the U.S. Senate making the duties on foreign wines as follows: On all wines imported in casks, 30 cents per gallon; on all still wines in bottles, $1.50 per case of one dozen bottles containing each not more than one quart or less than a pint. Any fraction over the pint beyond this quantity shall be at the rate of five cents per pint or fractional part.
The Supreme Court has decided the question of the negro in the public schools, holding the law of California not to be antagonistic to the Federal Constitution, which requires separate schools for negroes; but held, also, that where separate schools were not established and equal privileges of education accorded the negro children, they should be admitted to the white schools.
"No Senator was ever elected President," says the New York Sun. That is an error. James Monroe was a Senator from Virginia from 1790 to 1794. President Jackson was elected first Senator from Tennessee, and held the place till 1798. President Buchanan,
No Senator was ever elected President," says the New York Sun. That is an error. James Monroe was a Senator from Virginia from 1790 to 1794. President Jackson was elected first Senator from Tennessee, and held the place till 1798. President Buchannan, was also, for many years Senator from Pennsylvania; and President Pierce served five years in the Senate.
The Judiciary Committee of the House, it is said, have prepared and will present a proposition to amend the Constitution, regulating the term of the presidential office. The proposed amendment is to make the term six years and the President ineligible for a second term. It is thought that both houses of Congress will adopt the proposition, and if they do there is not much doubt but that three-fourths of the State Legislatures will accept the amendment.
In a recent discussion in the United States Senate on Cameron's financial plan, Frelinghuysen expressed it as his belief that the scheme, if carried out, would work greater financial injury to the country than the rebellion. When he finished, Flanagan of Texas, who is looked upon as the buffoon of the Senate, took the floor, and in the style of his remarkable harangue on the salary steal, amused for an hour or more the Senate and the galleries. It is said by an observer that "his twisting and torturing of the English language can only be compared with the efforts of that eminent burlesque Senator, Bob Hart, of minstrel notoriety." He was even more funny than Saulsbury of Delaware used to be when about half "set up."
