AN INCIDENT OF THE RAIN.
An Arizona tourist in trouble. What he had done—What he did do—How and with whom he did it—The Result.
One of the Arizona tourists, lately returned from Prescott, came to grief in attempting the passage of the Santa Ana river during the last rain. He had passed through the land of the Apache, and still wore his own hair; he had been snowed in among the mountain defiles, bordering on the Gila, and preserved in all their pristine beauty his ears and the tip of his nose; in a word he had braved all the dangers and perils, attendant upon a winter's journey through the hunting grounds of the red man, and had preserved, intact from harm, himself and his baggage. As a matter of course, he was not to be deterred by a little water. Consequently, with an adventurous spirit from Capistrano, who wished to go home, he started for San Diego county. Arriving where the banks of the Santa Ana formerly were before the river was filled with sand, he whipped his horses and they plunged boldly in the flood of seething water and sand, rushing swiftly by. After one or two plunges by the horses, the wagon commenced an active part in the exercise, plunged into a hole and upset. Thereupon our tourist, emulating the example of his horses and the wagon, and of Caesar on the banks of the Tiber, commenced a series of plunges, and the man from Capistrano, like Cas-

DISSOLUTION. — By reference to column of "new ads" it will be seen that the coppartnership heretofore existing between Thompson & Hindes has been dissolved by mutual consent. The saddlery business will hereafter be conducted by Mr. Thompson at the old stand of Obed Macy. A large and complete stock has been ordered by this gentleman, and is now on the way. By an earnest and strict attention to business, he hopes to deserve the patronage of the residents of town and its vicinity. Give him a call.
A NEW FEATURE — We would call attention to a new feature in the CALIFORNIAN. In addition to a report of the San Francisco markets, we have introduced this week a report of our home market. We have perfected arrangements with Messrs. Heimann & George to furnish us weekly with a corrected list of prices for every article, interesting either to the consumer or producer, and will, hereafter, make this report one of the specialties of the CALIFORNIAN.
