STEWART & HILL, Carriage and Wagon Manufacturers. suading the farmers of the country to unite and battle against other interest. On the coef without excitement, without ordinary clap-trap and certify the organization has spread county to county and State until almost every agriculture trict is represented by a F.A. Grange. For many years the farmer been educating. The County State Fairs, agricultural adand papers, together with the al education of the sons and others of farmers, who have eased the benefits of the best college then resumed the plow and natural pursuits, all have prepared mind for just such a success. Grange movement has made every oration, and in all these speeches to which he has listened he has heard the farmer spoke as the "bone and sinew of them"—that upon his labor citizen built and merchant princes marble palaces—that with the duct of his hands our steamer plow the seas, and the white our commerce are seen in clime. He knows, too, that the railroad trains, with their loads of freight, are filled free granaries, and are the results of labor behind the shining plows and with the sharp blade among fallen eleaves. We have seen in none of speeches, or in any of the plans of the Grangers, any grooming their hard lots, working under summer sun or winter cold. Only fret when they see that hard-carned dollars are abundantly reduced in numbers before the wheat pays mileage and shows brokerage, and commission insurance and elevatorage charged to some poorer crops; all the mysterious ways that fellow has ever yet found out; he has just "got the floor" and pointed a committee to find "what's the matter." For our we wish him God speed. There are demagogues in all fessions and in every department labor. Already in many local patriotic bummers, having rushed hay-seeds in their hair worked long enough to blister hands, and having no other details, have sought to do for themselves by filling some office of profit. To clear the organization of such men will require necessity, but there can not be without it. In every case they should seek the man—not man office. We do not conceive that Grangers will allow themselves to drift into the filthy pool. CALIFORNIA CREWERY, Seventh North street, between Los Angeles and Lemon. ANAHEIM. F. Kindness, strict attention to business, and all work warranted in my motto. Wm. Crowther, Proprietor. There is a patriotic Webb jail at Salem, Oregon, and his native thugism led him into the exaltance of voting three times on same day. Cincinnati Times, in an article under the above title, says persons at first supposed in spasmodic movement, and other ventures of the kind soon run its course and be the events of the past. Many respects the Grange event is different from all other organizations of workmen or artisans. And this great difference lies men who are members of the organization. Granges are not made open out of employment, whoering for bread, who are deeding charity, or who are asking for any kind. Elequent and minded orators have not traced the land, organizing and perforating farmers of the country and battle against every interest. On the contrary, excitement, without the clap-trap and ceremony, organization has spread from county and State to State most every agricultural dis-represented by a Farmers. Many years the farmers have meeting. The County and farms, agricultural addresses were together with the general Agricultural Selections. Doberty, a farmer in Alameda county, estimates that he has lost 810,000 this year, in grain devoured by squirrels. The crop prospects in the San Joaquin valley are excellent, the farmers are jubilant, and the area of land cultivated in the valley, the coming year will be greater than ever before. The States of Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, Tennessee, Kansas and Missouri, which produce in the aggregate more than one-balf the entire corn crop of the United States, report a loss of 29.2-10 per cent, as compared with last year. We learn from a newspaper published in Dundee, the principal seat of the jute trade, in Scotland, that a patent has been taken out by Mr. William Rutherford, manager, with Messrs. William Luerd & Joy, manufacturers near there, which, from its nature, is likely to be of considerable interest to the farmers of California and others interested in the bag trade, and which, from the description given of it, is likely completely to superede the present mode of bag making. This patent many years the farmers have succincting. The County and hairs, agricultural addresses ers, together with the generation of the sons and daughters farmers, who have enoyed benefits of the best colleges and summed the plow and agricultrals, all have prepared his or just such a success as the movement has made. In station, and in all the stump to which he has listened, heard the farmer spoken of bone and sinew of the land" upon his labor cities are and merchant princes erect palaces—that with the prohis hands our steamships seas, and the white sails of commerce are seen in every life knows, too, that the long trains, with their precious freight, are filled from his saws and are the results of hard mind the shining plow-share, of the sharp blade among the leaves. have seen in none of the or in any of the platforms rangers, any grounings over lots, working under the sun or winter cold. They when they see that their named dollars are abundantly in numbers before the crop pays mileage and shortage, merge, and commission, and e and elevatorage (i.e. to some poorer crops), and mysterious ways that "no one ever yet found out," and must "got the floor" and appose a committee to find out the matter." For our part, him God speed. are demagogues in all proand in every department of Already in many localities bunners, having rubbed a few seeds in their hair, and long enough to blister their skin having no other credence sought to do for them filling some office of honor at. To clear the organization much men will require firmness there can not be success at. In every case the office seek the man—not man the We do not conceive that the will allow themselves to join into the filthy pool of pollen. We learn from a newspaper published in Dundee, the principal seat of the jute trade, in Scotland, that a patent has been taken out by Mr. William Rutherford, manager, with Messrs. William Luerd & Joy, manufacturers near there, which, from its nature, is likely to be of considerable interest to the farmers of California and others interested in the bag trade, and which, from the description given of it, is likely completely to supercede the present mode of tag making. This patent is for the protection of an invention by which the bags are turned out from the loom ready for use, with bottom and sides complete, requiring no sewing whatever. It is stated that the bags can be made of any size, and that some difficulty at first experienced in the mangling or calendering of them has been successfully overcome. The San Francisco Commercial Herald remarks: Arrangements have been made by the Produce Exchange for taking account of stock both in city and country. It is very desirable that all interests should know how much wheat, barley, flour, etc., there is in the State on the 1st of January, and we were surprised to see a prominent member of the Exchange rise and object to the taking account of the stock, particularly as he himself has all the season been sailing under the flag and doing business under the title of the Farmers' Co-operative Union. The reason given by him for opposing the motion was an unwillingness on his part that the farmer and the public should be made acquainted with his stock in trade or have the benefit of the count. The gentleman, however, was voted down by the association, and the stock of grain throughout the State will be collected and given to the public by authority of the Exchange. The fact is apparent that there is more grain in the State than is generally supposed, and we make bold to declare in advance that we have a stock in the State at large equivalent to 150,000 tons of wheat. When we consider the fact of the great number of farms in California that are nearly or wholly destitute of wood, and the great and continuous expense entailed by our system of fencing, the importance to the farmer of dedicating a portion of bis land to the cultivation of forest trees, from which he can obtain fuel and fencing materials, is too palpable to admit of debate. The comparatively small expense and labor with which the cultivation of a few acres for the purposes I have named is attended, its absolute feasibility and bummers, having rubbed a few seeds in their hair, and long enough to blister their skin, having no other credence sought to do for them, filling some office of honor at. To clear the organization men will require firmness there can not be success at. In every case the office seek the man—not man the We do not conceive that the men will allow themselves to aid into the filthy pool of policy will come before Legislature and National, more usually, more honorably, by upon the principles of their nation and demanding their not because they belong to any or to that, not because he elected a majority or a number of delegates, but because the rights. Rangers are not the enemies of improvements. Of all they should demand immeasures to our navigable rivers; others they should, and do, build of railroads. If when these great highways were by bad management to reach all presidents and secreted superintendents and stockholders, and make poor men who labor to fill the land and elevators and commissions that he comes up and complaint. This he has a do. In all the honorable that is to come betweenangers on the one hand and nations who have forgotten to defend sympathies and our will be in behalf of the former. is a patriotic Webfoot in Valem, Oregon, and his name is Flynn. His native enclined him into the extravagant voting three times on the day. Writing a sketch of big life, an Irishman says he early ran away from his father, because he discovered that he was only his uncle.
