Daws, in a concation to the London Times, by facts and figures, that the crop of the United Kingdom is less than was previously estimated and that that country will not at least 104,000,000 bushels oweign wheat, to supply her people breadstuff the present year; nothing to carry over for years' supply. In Turkey, there is so short that the Government prohibited the exportation of breadstuffs. In France, all dew wheat and flour has been removed so as to supply the wants of people there at the lowest prices. All the countries in which Russia in hopes that she would a good crop and come to their lief, but as unpleasant and uncome as that news is, nevertheless it is true, and is supported by official circular recently issued the Russian Minister of Agriculture that the drought in Southern Europe which is known as the best producing part of the country been much more severe than supposed. That in some districts there is not only a short crop that there is danger that the inhabitants will suffer for want of food before the commencement of any harvest. The circular is fall particular, and gives the name the districts in which it says drought has destroyed everything and that to the distressing condition of the country, the ground pillars have made their appearance in great numbers and destroys every green thing. Instead being in the position of a supplier of grain for the north of Europe is usual, Russia has been reduced the necessity of becoming the competitor of those countries in grain markets of the world. Upon facts like these, we venture statement that the prospects in immediate future for Californii fess is most flattering. The quality of good prices for their products placed beyond a doubt, and see no reason why the probability of success in production are not good as usual, and considering the better modes of cultivation are practiced we think these qualities are better than at any other storefronts. We at all times advise farmers improve their farms as rapidly their means will admit; but now view of the prospects before they would emphasize that advice and urge it as a matter of priority. R. Instrumental Music. For terms of tuition and further particulars apply to SIGNOR CATALANO. Those pupils who have not a plane at home will receive instruction on the superb instrument at our rie Hall. We at all times advise farmers improve their farms as rapidly their means will admit; but now view of the prospects before they would emphasize that advice and urge it as a matter of priority. We care not how much money the past season's operation may have placed in your hands, fore you expend it or invest in any other way, look about your barn enlarging, or your fences tended or repaired? Remember that money laid out in either these ways will add to the value of your farm, and generally in a greater ratio than the cost member also that lumber is chewed now than it has been before years, and that time spent in new and judicious improvements of farm is better than money invested in bank while things look at loose on the farm. Have you a good orchard and vegetable garden fenced and well pruned and cultured? If not, you can spend surplus money and spare time in better or more profitable way in providing both, and this is time of year in which to make good beginning in these directs. One acre well prepared and vated in a vegetable garden and chard of well selected varieties fruit trees will be of more value family, both as to health and particularly than ten acres devoted general agriculture. If your house, barn and fence all in good condition, and your den and orchard are as large and good as they should be, then it be a good idea to consider what namentations will be first in no Are the streets leading through Improve Your Farms. Past has been a prosperous for the farmers of California, providing the coming rainy brings us a sufficiency of crops to insure good crops next year, the probabilities are that our will be more favorable for cultivators than the last. The all farm products are most story, and from the outlook countries, especially in Europe shall be called upon for all alms products next year to the deficiencies there. The by mail show that one of England's grain statisticians, H. Dawa, in a communiqué to the London Times, shows figures that the grain of the United Kingdom is even was previously estimated, that country will require 104,000,000 bushels of for meat, to supply her people in off the present year, with to carry over for next supply. In Turkey, the crop report that the Government has farm lined with shade or timber trees, or are the division tenses between fields furnished in this manner? It costs but little to plant out trees along the public highways and cross fences, and their appearance, to say nothing of their real value, will compensate in a very few years for the outlay of money and time. Have you any old, well rotted manure lying about your barnyard, and barren and alkali spots in your fields, waste no time in drawing that manure out and spreading it on such spots and thus rendering them productive, for it costs just as much to cultivate and seed barren lands as it does to cultivate and seed fertile, and the manure will render them fertile and productive. In short, during the present cool, dry weather, the farmer can do little else than busy himself in improvements of the character suggested, or in preparation for them; but when the rainy season begins, the hurry of the busy season begins also, and then the improvements are likely to be postponed or put off altogether.—Sacramento Record. Plant Trees Early. To those who propose to plant trees, whether fruit or ornamental, this season, we would say plant early. None but those who have observed the difference in the growth of trees planted the same season, some early in the fall and others late in the spring, can realize what that difference really is. This difference is not confined to the following season, but extends through a series of years. In this country, the dormant state of vegetation, especially trees, is very short. The leaves have fallen from deciduous trees in the fall, but a very short time before the sap begins to move again, and the buds to swell preparatory to throwing out foliage the coming spring. We all know, that transplanting a tree at any time and under the most favorable circumstances, checks the growth of the tree more or less. The object of transplanting trees at all, is to secure a tree in the place to which it is transplanted, that shall continue to grow as rapidly as possible. This object can only be accomplished by handling the tree in such a manner as to check the growth as little as possible. If a tree be dug and transplanted in the fall, any wounds on the roots will heal during the winter, the ground around the roots will become packed and firm, and when spring opens, the tree is all ready to grow almost as well and rapidly as if it had not been disturbed; but if transplanted late in winter or spring, the sap starts before the wounds are healed, and it flows out at them, and thus the tree is deprived of a circulating fluid just as necessary to the life and health of the tree, as blood to the human body. The soil around the roots does not become compact, but remains open and full of air, and the result is that if the tree does not absolutely die, it becomes stunted and will not recover for a number of years, if at all. It is therefor better, if you cannot transplant trees early in the season, in most cases to let the planting go until the cultivate and seed barren lands as it does to cultivate and seed fertile, and the manure will render them fertile and productive. In short, during the present cool, dry weather, the farmer can do little else than busy himself in improvements of the character suggested, or in preparation for them; but when the rainy season begins, the hurry of the busy season begins also, and then the improvements are likely to be postponed or put off altogether. Sacramento Record. Our Natural Advantages. The most evident cause of our superior producing capacity is the number and extent of our natural advantages. The fertility of our soil is one of the principal. A favorable climate is another, because such favors are rare on this continent. This climate of ours permits of the greatest variety of products from the soil, in strong contrast with the many sections which can produce but one or two leading staples. It also lessens the physical requirements of the producers, who require less fuel, less clothing, less perfect housing, and less food. It is said that our people need less food for the actual nutrition of the organs, than the inhabitants of colder countries. In all the hyperborean regions outside of California, the most of what man consumes is not demanded for the actual nutrition of the organs, but for keeping up animal heat to a life-sustaining point. In California, all this is sufficiently supplied by air and sunshine; much therefore, of the labor elsewhere expended to procure the more necessaries of life not being demanded, more remains disposable for its higher uses and enjoyments. Our advantages in this respect cannot be overrated or fully represented to the understanding of non-residents; we only allude to the subject to stimulate the industrial spirit of our present residents, and to attract the attention of others to our natural advantages. — Real Estate Reporten
