Mr. Pumphrey has almost entirely recovered from the effects of his late accident. The Los Angeles "Chamber of Commerce" has been permanently organized. Another victory is claimed by the Carlists under Gen. Portillo at Cienfuegos. Portland, Maine, follows suit with a large fire amongst the shipping during the early part of the week. Thirty lives were lost by the burning of the steamer Wawasett on the Potomac river.. The Santa Barbara papers are agonizing on the question of railroad subsidies. Riverside has a church, school house, hotel, restaurant, drug-store, post-office, store of general merchandise and a butcher shop. — Guardian.
