Republican Convention. The Republican County Convention was called to order in the District Court Room on Saturday July 12th, at 10:20 o'clock, by Mr. Oscar Macy. Mr. Wm. R. Olden, of Anaheim, was elected President; and Mr. J. R. Brierly, Secretary. Subsequently, these gentlemen were declared the permanent officers of the Convention. Mr. Olden, taking the chair said that one sort of men had held the offices of this County for years, right straight along. He believed that the people were dissatisfied and that this Convention could adopt measures which would ensure a defeat of those who acted as if they had a fee simple in and so all the offices of the county. He thought it the Convention would not wisely its labor would result in the election of good men, and those who were the choice of the people. On motion, Messrs. Bouton Davis and Mace were appointed a Committee on Credentials. Before the Committee retired to examine the credentials a resolution was adopted to the effect that no one would be admitted as a delegate unless he was a resident of the Supervisorial district he claimed to represent. Before the Committee retired to examine the credentials a resolution was adopted to the effect that no one would be admitted as a delegate unless he was a resident of the Supervisory district he claimed to represent. Griffith offered the following resolutions, which were adopted: Whereas, it is manifestly evident that the people of Los Angeles county and city desire and insist on having good and reliable men, irrespective of political faith, to fill the respective county offices, Resolved, That we deem it inexpedient to make party nominations, as such nominations would tend to defeat the will of the people. Resolved, That a committee of seven members of this Convention, one from each Supervisorial district, be appointed by the delegates from said district, and two at large, be elected by this Convention to meet and confer with an equal number of delegates from the People to nominate men for the Legislature and the respective county offices. Resolved, That in the event no such delegation from the people should meet the delegates from this Convention — then the delegates from this Convention be authorized, to make said nominations; or it required, this delegation be emptied to re-assemble this Convention. The Committee were appointed as follows: First District: J. M. Griffith; E Bouton, of Los Angeles. Second District: J. E. McComas, Compton. Third District: Dr. Wm. Gelle; El Monte. Fourth District: Wm. R. Olden, Anaheim. At large: C. C. Lips and Vincent Hoover. The Convention then proceeded to select a County Committee of seven members. Gen E. Bouton and C. C. Lips were selected by the delegates from the First District; A. Higbie, of Compton, from the Second District; A. T. Currier, of San Jose, from the Third District; George C. Knox, of Anaheim from the Fourth District; E F. de Celis and J R. Brierly from the county at large. Gen E. Bouton made a motion which was adopted that the Committee appointed on Nominations shall call the Convention together on Saturday, August 2d, 1873, unless before that time they and their associates shall have nominated a people's ticket. On motion of J. M. Griffith, the Committee on Nominations were requested to call upon the people of the county to select seven delegates to meet said Committee on Saturday, July 26th, for the purpose of nominating a People's Ticket.
