"Closes," (Mond's), 12 M. Southeast," Arrives," ( ), 9 AM "Closes," (Sand's), 9 P.M. SPECIAL NOTICE. Mr. E. A. Pullen is authorised to collect all moneys due the Southern Californian. Richard Melrose. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Four Nights of the Drama. During the past week the worthy towns-people of Anaheim, have had the pleasure of witnessing for the first time a theatrical performance at home. French and English Comedy, Sensational Drama and Farce, were all placed upon the boards and were produced in a manner to please the audience and impress them favorably with the merits of the performers. The leading lady of the troupe, Mrs. Wilton, has undoubtedly great histrionic genius. Her reading generally and her facial delineation of some of the passions are good, but there is too much physical force in her gesticulation. "Mrs Steinhold," an accomplished woman of the world, would never so far forget herself as to give vent to anger in the same manner as her chamber- A REQUEST.—For the past two weeks we have been engaged in compiling a list of vines and trees that have been planted in and around Anaheim, this season. In order to make the list a full and complete one, it will be necessary for our friends in Santa Ana, Tustin City and Richland, to assist us in getting the required information. They will confer a favor on us by giving any information on the subject, such as the amount of vines and trees planted in their locality, and the different varieties. A CORRECTION.—From a letter written to the Star, by W. M. McFadden, we learn that the apportionment of State School moneys are as follows: Spring District has $155 72, and not $156 72; San Pedro District has $212 69, and not $222 69; San Gabriel District has $422 47, and not $443 47; Santa Ana District has $415 89, and not $916 89. ENTERPRISE.—Charlie Wright, on arriving from San Juan on Thursday, found his relay of horses sick with the hippo-sniffles. He immediately procured an extra team and went on his way despite the epizootic. He says that the San Diego stage is bound to run, even if he has to borrow a locomotive to pull it. ANOTHER.—W. F. Crummer, County Clerk of Jo Daviess county, Illinois, desires information concerning Anaheim and wants the "CALIFORNIAN" sent to him. Anaheim Public Schools. The leading lady of the troupe, Mrs. Wilton, has undoubtedly great histrionic genius. Her reading generally and her facial delineation of some of the passions are good, but there is too much physical force in her gesticulation. "Mrs Steinhold," an accomplished woman of the world, would never so far forget herself as to give vent to anger in the same manner as her chambermaid. Deep and concentrated passion is generally expressed in polite society more by an intensified intonation of the voice than byivehement and outre gestures. Her rendition of the character of "Virginie," however, was very happy and in certain scenes reminded us strongly of Miss Charlotte Thompson, as we remember her thirteen years ago. In characters similar to Virginie, evidently lies her forte. In the impersonation of Camille or Adrienne, she would undoubtedly achieve marked success. Another objection to Mrs. Wilton, is one to which young performers are very prone and that is, that at times she acts at the audience. A passion of any nature can sensibly affect the spectator, only when it is actually felt by the delineator and to do this he, or she must place themselves for the time being in an ideal world. These things, however, are only mannerisms which, when known, are easily eradicated. Mrs. Wilton has the proper ground-work—natural genius—to rise in her profession and with careful study and enlarged experience, will most assuredly achieve a high reputation. We trust that the Wiltons may visit Anaheim again. Should they do so, we do not doubt that their reception will not only be flattering to their feelings, but pecuniarily profitable, inasmuch as during their recent visit they have demonstrated that they possess merit far above the ordinary run of provincial professionals. BURGLARY.—On Saturday night some person or persons unknown, effected an entrance into the store of M. Calisher & Co. Either on ac- ANOTHER. — W. F.
