Flax production increases slowly, if at all, although for years high prices have been offered for the seed. Little or nothing has been done in hemp, which has long been one of the most profitable crops raised in Kentucky, Missouri and other of the Middle States. A few persevering men are doing their best for cotton culture in the San Joaquin Valley, and with every prospect of success. Acres of land, with improvements, on Santa Anchao. Acres land, unimproved, on Los Coyotes in lots in Anaheim. Particulars inquire at "SOUTHERN CALIAN" Office. Selected 3 Fine here and in France. While our vineyardists are complaining of prices, the wine crop of France this is considerably below, and the prices especially in the champagne district— love the average. In many districts held will be less than one hundred acres to the acre; near Ay, Rheims, May and Pierry, less than 200. The wines in demand for sparkling have gold in Ay at $3 per gallon; Nerze30, at Cramant, $2 25; at Bouzy, at Pierry, $2 25; at Le Mesnie, $2 33; and at Ludes, $2 25 to $2 60. Figures are nearly double those paid ear, and quadruple those paid fouryears ago. The production of sparkline has doubled within fifteen years and tripled within thirty. The consumes have multiplied, and the prices usen, there has been no commensucrease in the number of vines in the of the Marne, which supplies the of the champagne, and the manutaction of the most famous brands can afpay 60 cents for the new wines reto fill a bottle, which they will sell ranging from $1 25 to $2. The last annual production of sparkling in the champagne region of France ran at 27,000,000 bottles. Much stuff formerly rejected is now used, heavy wines from Southern France mixed in to increase the quantity. California, on the other hand, there is us of material suitable for sparklard it is sold at prices ranging from 5 cents per gallon. We infer that thee is not very far distant when the Sonoma, Napa and Solano, suitable light, sparkling wines, will be available.—Alta. Brain Sacks and Jute. Address delivered by the President Grain Sacks and Jute. Address delivered by the President of State Agricultural Society at the meeting, touches among other interest, that of the cost of grain for the farmers of this State. The extent for this item alone last year is $2,450,000. These sacks are of jute imported from India and tap in Scotland. The opinion is held that the rich bottom lands, especially in the southern part of the state, irrigation is practiced, will produce material in quality and quantity to that used in the uses of this material for sacks, it is incorporated into more fabrics, while the coarser parts and known as jute butts, are eagerly sought for paper stock. According to Mr. Hodgson's estimate, it required last year to bushels of wheat, or one-eleventh entire crop to pay for the sacks. Right to be capital and enterprise in California to master this business importer of the raw material the profit, the manufacturer another importer the third one. We taken hold of sugar production, and are making commensurate way. There is a ludicrous side that we cannot furnish sacks of great material for the wheat and which must be sent to market. We made very little progress in our of producing textile materials. Lomas de Santiago Banco. The rancho "Lomas de Santiago" was granted to Teodocio Yorba by Gov. Pico in May 1846; on the 26th day of October 1852, Yorba filed a petition with the Land Commission, claiming four square leagues, which was allowed by them August 15th 1854; on December 11th 1856, the District Court affirmed decision and confirmed title to eleven square leagues; on January 10th 1867 the certificate of survey authenticated by signature of L. Upson, United States Surveyor General for California, was approved by the commissioner of General Land Office and patent for the ranch was issued to the present proprietors.
