The British Government wishes to annex all the islands in the Pacific Ocean, not already occupied by any civilized power. A suit has been brought by Geo. K. Porter to obtain possession of Woodward's Gardens. An accident occurred on the Fort Smith and Little Rock railroad on February 19th. Twenty-five passengers killed and wounded. Three new indictments have been found against "Boes" Tweed. Pullman cars are to be placed on the Midland Rail-road in England. Remarkable Origin of a Fire On the 26th of December a fire occurred in Goodyear's India-rubber Works, Naugatuck, Conn., which originated in an unheard-of manner. In the proofs of loss the claimants make the following remarkable statement: The Superintendent, who was in the room where the fire originated, and at the time, states that while one of the workmen was handling rubber goods, the air seemed to be charged with electricity, it being in the midst of a violent snow storm, the mercury meanwhile being at or near Zero, then there seemed to come from his hands a flame which instantly communicated with the goods and dry pine of the building, the fire not being under their control for a moment.
