KEWEN, OF LOS ANGELES. [Communicated] Nothing Succeeds like Success. The School House dedication at Westminster, was a complete and perfect success. Mr. Webber has after months of continued effort and unaltering devotion of his mental and physical powers, succeeded His colony is a success; he has collected together from various sections a community of people, who are free from petty jealousies, and who, working together in harmony, by their united efforts are producing great results, which will prove not only beneficial to themselves, but indirectly to the whole valley. This cooperative harmony is not confined to the mon, the ladies also proved themselves more than equal to the occasion, the bountiful repast which they furnished was more than was required by even the keen appetites of their many visitors. Among the many standers which have been circulated in regard to Mr. Greeley, nothing so fills our soul with horror as a base insinuation that he is the author of the following verses. If we were asked to impose a punishment upon the wretch who has been guilty of it, we confess that we could think of nothing commensurate with the enormity of the offense, unless it be to ram an umbrella down the culprit's throat—and then spread it: YE PIGGE. Ye pigge he is a pretty fowle, And wondrous goods to eat, Hys ham is goode, lykewise hys jowle, And sko bys little feet; But though you try a thousand years, I trow you still will fayle To make a silke purse of hys care, Or a wissel of hys tayle. RAPID GROWTH.—Jno. W. Clark Esq., has at his farm near town al-falfa (or Chili clover) which was sowed Aug. 1st and on the 18th of the same month had attained a height of 25 inches. Also corn, called the Sanford variety, which is silked out in less than two months from the date of planting. We learn from the Santa Barbara Times that the total assessed value of all property in that county, this year, is $6,213,223, against $2,796,376 last year.
