LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
A Fine Row of Trees.
One of the most beautiful rows of trees to be seen anywhere in the world, is the magnificent series of poplars which stand along the north-erly side of Center street, in this city; in front of what is known as "Sahmide's Block." Every stranger who visits our town remarks at once upon their exceeding beauty. As the dusty traveler approaches from either direction, he sees, from miles away, their tall, green tops waving gladly in the sunshine, tow-cring high above all surrounding objects, and giving promise of a hearty welcome and abundant cheer in the charming town which nestles so closely around them. The whole block is surrounded by these trees, but those on the south line being the tallest and most uniform and regular in their appearance, are more deserving of special mention. The row on this one side—about 1,100 feet in length—consists of between fifty and sixty five large trees about seventy-five feet in height, and so near alike in size and shape that it would be difficult at a general glance to distinguish one from the other. Their foliage is luxuriant. The shade is pleasant. The dews of night gather in their branches and the morning brassiere.
Masonic Hall Dedication.
Among the many noble institutions of which Anaheim feels justly proud in her Masonie Lodge, known to the fraternity as Anaheim Lodge No. 207, of Free and Accepted Masons. It was organized about two years ago, and it is used as to all embrace its main emblems one of the best men—and most highly esteemed citizens of whom our community can boast.
The dedication of their new Hall on Monday last, was a most interesting and impressive ceremony. The day was much like a general holiday. Fings were displayed from the principal buildings, the Masons all looked happy. A large delegation of the late Angeles brothers came down in the morning among whom were Messrs. P.P.F. Temple, Sam Prenger, Thomas E.Rawan, W.M. Ries, J.Q.A. Stanley, Dr.H.S.Grinevich, A.W.Edman, S.Jackson, H.Pleischman, H.Hummel, H.W.Hollman, S.Meyer, John Reynolds, B.Limon and Mr.Kenan and Ludey. We also noied Messrs.T.Casad and W.H.Ports of Santa Ana, J.B.Bacon of Neguil Reach, N.T.Harris of Tustin City, and Robt.N.White, I.E.South and Otto Evers of Anaheim Landing.
At 2 Celock P.M., the Masons assembled at the old hall and from thence, accompanied by the Oda Fellowes as a Lodge, and preceded by a band of music, marched down Center Street to Lemon, thence back to Center to Los Angeles, and
The row on this one side—about 1,100 feet in length—consists of between fifty and sixty five large trees about seventy-five feet in height, and so near alike in size and shape that it would be difficult at a general glance to distinguish one from the other. Their foliage is luxuriant. The shade is pleasant. The dews of night gather in their branches, and the morning breeze shakes it down in the form of a gentle rain.
Let every one plant trees. They are beautiful, and improve the value of a place very fast. They are an enduring and an ever increasing monument to the wisdom of him who plants them.
