SATURDAY. APRIL 27 1872
HOODLUMS.
A San Francisco dispatch, of 18th inst has this disgraceful intelligence:
"The steamer America brought a large number of Chinamen to-day. As they were moving up S cond at some were knocked down and robbed of their luggage, and others were otherwise brutally maltreated by Hoodlums. As they ran the gaunt-let along Second street, grown up white offians looked on without interfering, and others engaged in urging them on."
Wherefore send money to distant lands to convert heathen, Oh Bay City, when such barbarity exists within thine own borders. How can't thou expect that distant nations shall send to trade with these, when their people are slaughtered in thy streets and the murderers go unpunished? Will they not rather send their ships to Oakland—to Vallejo—to Saucelito, or Goat Island, where the safety of life and property may be assured? Better appoint a second Committee of Safety to kill off these outlaws, then shall it be better for thy reputation abroad and the security of thy people at home.

TUSTIN CITY LETTER.
Ed. Southern Californian:—A gain the farmers in his vicinity rejoice. On Tuesday morning of last week it commenced to rain and we had a splendid shower, which was much needed here. Previous to the rain the weather was very disagreeable—hard frosts at night and high winds during the day, doing much damage to the crops—but since the rain we have fine weather for the growing of grain. Most of the grain in this section will now make very good yields, though some was too far gone for the rains to help. We expect the Chapman ditch to be completed soon and have the water running to this place; if so, there will be no more danger of failing crops.
San Diego seems to have fairly disgorged itself this spring. There are six families from there now, in this valley; and every day seems to add to the number. There is not a day passes but what may be seen a family, (sometimes as high as three), who have left there for some more fertile country. The verdict of all those with whom I have talked is that San Diego is "dried out." I notice that Mr. Mills, who has been on a visit to his recent home in Sonoma County, has returned bringing with him a fine blooded bull for the improvement of horned stock in this section.
The "No Fence" law is now being taken advantage of by our farmers and they are corralling numbers of stock which heretofore have been allowed to run at large by their owners, to the great detriment of the farmer. The stock men in this portion of the country say that they like the law very well, as they had rather pay the damage than to have their stock shot, as heretofore.
Yours, etc., IRE.

TO SQUATTERS!
EDITOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIAN.—Permit me the use of your columns to call the attention of the squatters on the eastern portion of the Bolsa Grande rancho to the advertisement and poster of the Los Angeles and San Bernardino Land Company.
All parties occupying any of their lands without authority, must either purchase or lease said lands, at once, or leave—as after a few days grace, suits will be commenced against them.
The Company would much prefer an amicable settlement, but if squatters persist in their attempt to hold possession it will be necessary to dispossess them by due process of law.

FALL IN PRICE OF WOOL—The wool market has suddenly taken a downward course. Until yesterday it commanded from 32 to 37 cents per pound in this city. Advice received from San Francisco have, however, caused a decline of ten percent. It is estimated that not more than one-half of the chip has yet been marketed.—News Z4th.
