Much dissatisfaction is expressed by many in regard to the ordinance, and we are likely to have a lively scrimmage between the interested parties before the matter is finally settled. Every two weeks on Sunday night the Germania Turn-Veren give a dramatic performance and social dance at their hall note-withstanding the protest of the "Shouting Methodist." I glory in their spunk, for the law says there is no evil unless the futant is criminal. And, speaking of the Sabhath and Sabhath breakers, I might here mention the fact that quite a large number of our citizens indulge in that little proline known as "Spiritualism." Circles are held highly at the residences of many of our man claims that he was elected city Marshal and Tax Collector under an ordinance passed by the Common Council of 1869, and that the present Council have no right to oust him from a position which the people elected him to fill. He intends to contest the matter should the Mayor give his signature to the enactment of the present Council thus making it a law.
