MARTIN TEACHER. APPORTIONMENT.—The new ap- pment of state representation does change the number of members this County. Attitude of Newmark & Co, Our R.R. Convention. During our recent visit to Los- Angeles and other parts of the county, we were much pleased with the remarks which we heard in regard to the com- ing convention. Many prominent citi- sents speak in a most encouraging man- ner of the absolute necessity of our county having more R.R. facilities, and express much willingness to assist in connecting Anaheim with Los Angeles and Wilmington. There can be no doubt, if our people are true to them- selves, our lovely city will gather new life and prosperity from the "coming events" which now "cast their shadows before". From the Monte, San Jose, Compton and Wilmington we hear but one expression in regard to the proposed convention—and that is unanimously in its favor. We most earnestly hope that all the good people of the county will appreciate the good work meditated by the members of the com- ing convention and will not fail to send representatives as requested. Personal.—We have been favored with a call from Mr. John P. Young, business manager of the San Diego Uni- ion. He is looking well and evidently enjoying himself. Mr. S. Goldstein returned by last steamer from San Francisco. TEACHERS INSTITUTE.—Will commence at Los Angeles at the school of Miss. McArthur on the '15th inst. con- tinuing through the 16th and 17th. Meat Markets. CITY Meat Market, (Corner of Center and Los Angeles streets.) ANAHEIM ATTITUDE OF NEWMARK & CO. Bring a recent visit to Los Angeles and the pleasure of an interview those gentlemen and, as we publish last week, the proceedings of a particularly condemning that nor not giving their support to the institution steamship movement, we but just to now give the other of the story as explained to us. Meersrs Newmark express them in favor of an opposition steamer as they very clearly show, could consistently with their own interest themselves to pay a certain price right when a rival firm could immediately ship for half the sum and their business by underselling The single article of flour will illustrate. This commodity assured is often sold at an ad of not over $1 per ton upon cost weight. Suppose Newmark & Co., obliged to pay $4 per ton freight and house could bring it, as is often in opposition times, for $1 or $2; this difference would be far than the margin of profit, and no would stand under so great a disgrace. We earnestly desire an opposite steamer we feel that we cannot justice condemn any one for not gnung an unqualified patronage to one at fixed rates, that would give so great an advantage in business would lead to inevitable ruin, usticiia ruat coelum.
