ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SUNDAY OCTOBER 21, 1871. Tustin City. This new town, which so long existed only on paper, has of late commenced growing rapidly and nearly every week we have new improvements to record. A good hotel 28 feet square and two stories high has been built by Mr. T. M. Rikert and will soon be ready for the public. Several dwellings are in progress of construction and the ground has already been staked off for the large stone building heretofore mentioned in the Gazette. The offer which Mr. Tustin made through our columns to donate lots and other aid to the society first building a church, has been accepted by the Methodist Episcopal church who have organized a society there and will build the church in the spring. Rev Mr. Leiby preaches at the school house tomorrow, at 11 a.m., A church choir has also been organized. NEW FIRM.—The well known and popular Central Market has undergone a change of proprietors, Santos Moreno & Co., succeeding to the business of Peralta & Co.. The new managers are courteous and oblige gentlemen and will continue to supply the public with the choice of food in their line of business. Sand Storm.—A most violent storm raged between Los Angeles and the San Gabriel River, on Tuesday last: We were out in it and speak from experience, much to our sorrow. It was far worse than any "Santa Ana" we have ever seen. Arriving in the vicinity of Anaheim the weather was found to be Market Report. San Francisco Oct. 12th; Flour 5 to 800 per bbl, Rye 235 to 245 pwt, Barley 190 to 205, Corn 215, 225, Bayou beans 275 to 325. Cass beans 400 to 450, Mustard seed whiskey 350 to 450, brown 600 to 700 diary brown 400 to 500, Potatoes 70c to 1 Sweet do 125 to 150, Butter 40 to Eggs 50 to 52½ Lard 12½ Wool best to 40. Personal.—We had the pleasure of call from Judge Evey on Wednesday last. He has just returned from San Francisco where he has been attending the meeting of the Grand Louis F. and A. M. We find an item in the San Diego Union concerning our former fellow citizen Ed Polhemus. Mr. P. has been shipping wool to San Francisco having gotten about 80 bales at the last shearing. THE LOS ANGELES STAR.-It affords pleasure to say a few words in praising a good newspaper. The Star of Los Angeles has achieved a reputation throughout Southern California the places it ahead of all competitors. Publishing in the morning and Monday mornings as well as others having always the latest telegraph news, it is sure to be the first paper tell us of any important event. New Telegraph Office.—Mr. Hain is the superintendent of the telegraph lines in the southern part of the State has opened a new office at San Luis R-Express. MARINE.—Arrived at Anaheim. Church has chosen Tustin City as a home. He is now building a dwelling there and expects his family soon from San Bernardino. Corn Measure.—A young man who has been figuring it up tells us that a space 7 feet long, 61 feet wide and 34 feet high will hold 100 bushels of corn in the ear. A Steamer Bought.—We learn that B.L. Peel has bought the steamer Olympia for the opposition on our route. The Bell Moved.—The fire-alarm bell has been removed from its original location to the lot east of Enterprise Hall. Narrow Gauge Railroad.—E. N. Reeb, Chief Engineer of the projected narrow gauge coast railroad, reports that an active survey of the route is in progress—Star. Over 1500 persons are reported burned to death by the recent pearl fires in Wisconsin. So far as they have been examined the vaults of all the Chicago banks with stock of confiagration, and saved their contents. New Paper—We have received the initial number of a new paper, called "The Wine Dealer's Gazette" published monthly at San Francisco. Its object is the promotion of the wine and vineyard interest of this coast. New Building.—Plans have been drawn for a fine new building in Los Angeles which is to be erected for Mr Perry, of Perry and Woodworth and news, it is sure to be the first paper tell us of any important event. take pleasure in recommending the journal to public patronage. New Telegraph Office.—Mr. Hainey the superintendent of the telegraph lines in the southern part of the State has opened a new office at San Luis R-Express. Marine.—Arrived at Anaheim Landing, 16th inst., Sch. Bobolink. More 200,000 ft lumber to Dicken, Huntington & Co.; also, Sch Letitia, Merrill, L-000 ft lumber and 400 barrels lime and plaster, to Langenberger & Co. Deeds Filed—A. Robinson, Trust to Hugo Schienck; 40 acres in Anaheim extension for $440. Ole Bergson to Heimann & George lease of two lots on Los Angeles street Anaheim, 5 years; $15 per month. New Census and Patent Laws.—We have received from Munn & Co., New York a neat bound volume, £120 pages entitled as above. It contains a comprehensive census of the United States, by state and counties, also areas etc. Besides this it contains the new Patent Law with much other valuable information. Hellman's Stationery Store.—Almost everybody knows Hellman already, it will do no harm to say that he one of the finest stocked stores in line of business to be found anywhere Revenue stamps always on hand. No to Post Office, Los Angeles. The Los Angeles News complains sacreligious wretches who practice get-shooting in the cemetery and face tombstones by their shots. News also, noticing the presence of Vincent Colyer in that city, compliments him in this way, "Those whom curiosity may inspire with a wish to behold a monster will find him at the P House. Our readers will notice a familiar name in our Los Angeles advertisements, that of Chas R. Johnson who wrote Mr DeColis has opened a real estate and commission business. Plans have been drawn for a fine new building in Los Angeles which is to be erected for Mr. Perry, of Perry and Woodworth and Stephen Mott Esq., County Clerk. It will be located on Main street, adjoining the Farmers and Merchants bank on the east and will be 52 feet front by 90 feet deep, with a height of 50 feet to the top of the podiment. The lower story is for stores and in the second story a fine large billiard room 52x65 feet will be finished oil; large enough for six tables. There will be two large plate glass show windows with solid panes of glass 7x9 feet in size. Altogether, the plan is a beautiful one and bids fair to make the finest looking building in the city. E F. Kysor is the architect. A House Warming — Mr. Bremmerman has authorized us to say that the roof of his new hotel building will be on by to-night, and he extends a cordial invitation to the public to meet him then and there and commemorate the occasion with a little good cheer. New Pumping Apparatus. Mr. Luedke, the skillful and ingenious jeweller of this city, has shown us a model of a horse-power attachment for a pump, which promises to lift a great deal of water at a comparatively trifling expense. The model, which is on a scale of one to sixty, may be seen at Mr. L.'s store. Our readers will notice a family name in our Los Angeles advertisements, that of Chas R. Johnson who will Mr DeCelis has opened a real estate and commission business. Mr John is the late well known and popular agent of the Anaheim Lighter Co. we wish him success in his new undertaking. Music Hath Charms — Mr Gray, enterprising music publisher of Francisco, keeps us supplied with latest productions in the musical world.
