Clay never fully forgave James for the part he played in the rebellion bargain and when it was charged that Clay vote of Kentucky to John Adams for the President instead Jackson, in consideration of his recent appointment by Adams to department of State. Some ten later Clay and Buchanan were the United States Senate to and the latter was one of the not the Democracy. Clay did real his dislike of the Pennsylvania said sought an easy occasion to One memorablely he rose and stopid attack upon the Democrat especially upon Gen. Jackson. Buchanan was put forward to answer which he did with his best When he to k his seat Mr. with well feigned surprise actually remarked at the no allusion to Senator Pennsylvania. He was referring leaders not to the subordination of democracy Upon which Buchanan the floor and said that the Sen. Kentucky was certainly in cause he had pointed y and badly looked at him while he was Clay quickly and sneering by amusing to Buchanan's vision "I beg to say Mr." he remarked that the was the Senator's aid not mine, him, sir I cannot look one way
The Cucamonga Ranch
The following account of this lime vineyard clipped from an exchange, will we think, be of interest to our readers.
Forty-two miles east from Los Angeles, on the stage road to San Bernardino, one comes to a little oasis, called the Cucamongo Ranch, the beauty of which tempted your correspondent to lay over a day, as it will tempt many travelers to do when the accommodations for their enterment shall be in a somewhat more forward state. I went by the old stage road, which passed by Ruebottom's (better known in this section as Uriele Billy's), and from the time we entered the San Gabriel river, about twelve miles east from Los Angeles, we saw no running water until we came to Cucamonga. Here, however, our even were delighted with the sight of two or three fine brooks of clear, cool water, running with a full stream in considerable current, spreading vortex, fresh air and beauty all around. Apart from their usefulness these streams are a kind of curi city also. We had then rising very gradually, but constantly, from the line we left Los Angeles, and were at a height of about 2,000 feet above the sea; yet the country seemed to be an extensive plain, sloping gently southward from the mountain chain about three miles north of us, and in every other direction we had an uninterrupted view to a distance of at least two or fifteen miles. From this plain two or three hills rise to a height of perhaps
Upon which Buchanan the floor and said that the Senate Kentucky was certainly in cause he had pointed to and only looked at him while he was Clay quickly and sneering by aiming to Buchanan's view I beg to say Mr. it be remarked that the Senator's ard not mine, him, as I do not look one way another." It was a cruel thrust on a gentleman reproached Clay Marshall he shugged his shoulder. Of it whom he deserved the writest letters "On another Buchanan detained himself to a charge of hostility to the war with England by showing lead to meet a troop of Lancaster did not Baltimore to resist adversaries. Yes Mr President," was promptly rejoiced in result that event and I remember by the time the Senator gotury and the enemy, had fled, as they head if the approach distinguished gentle man and restore the prestige of his ear line, if it does not make all even in matters the passions of Mr Buchanan was too much in the world—too accomplished a not to entrench the spirit of asport as Clay They frequently society in alter years especiallyinner table. It they did not be helds, they at least ceased to be

Fatal Repo-Walking.
The Corvallis Gazette of September 23d save:
Gilbert Clute better known as Mons Delicate announced that he would walk nightwife from the roof of the City Hotel to the root of the California Hotel (better known as Eagle saunter) on Saturday last. At the appointed time he commenced his ascent from the Caifra Hotel roof, and walked half over, when the faceings on the City Hotel began to slip through the blocks and Mons Delicate was precipitated to the ground and instantly killed.
A Curious Fact: In the year 1752 people went to bed as usual, on the 2d of September, but they did not get out until the 11th of the same month. How was that? This statement is often given out to young folks as a joke. The answer is that at that time an Act of the English Parliament was passed to correct the calendar, which was then known to be eleven days wrong—A sheet almanae now preserved in the Winchester Museum, England, record these eleven days by their absence from Italy.
