ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SATURDAY AUGUST 5th 1871 For County Clerk. As will be noticed in our advertising columns, Louis Wolfskill in the regular Republican nominee for this important office. Mr. Wolfskill stands high in the public estimation, and the Republican party have been fortunate in their choice of a candidate. We understand that a San Francisco is negotiating for a lot in this City for the purpose of erecting thereon a hotel building. BALL NEXT WEEK. — Richards & Melrose will give a grand ball next Friday eve, 11th inst at Enterprise Hall. Tickets (including supper) $3. There is to be a meeting of the Democratic County Committee to-day at Los Angeles. OUR CLIMATE, is a happy one, even when compared with other portions of this favored state. A San Francisco dispatch of the 31st ult says "This is one of the first thoroughly pleasant days seen in San Francisco this Summer." In Anaheim we have had almost invariably pleasant weather, and a hot or windy day is a rare exception with us. A Democratic meeting is to be held at Gallatin at 2 P. M. to day. The Star complains of dull times in Los Angeles, consequent upon the withdrawal of the opposition steamer. Literary Notices. "The Handy Book of Husband George E. Waring Jr., published by B Treat & Co New York, 1871, been laid on our table by P. A. book-seller, Anaheim, who is also the work for this County. It has large book of over 600 pages, sold only by subscription. The August Overland is with the usual number of well-articles. In the first paper "A Hero of the Pacific," occurs those geographical errors so owed to European writers upon our own. The author speaks of the "Multnomah," at Oregon City. The Falls are those of theette and no such river as the Mulis, we believe, in existence. Theicle too looks to us like a simi vision of Prentice Mulford's letters to the Morning Call. No Mr. Overland?
