Candidates for Supervisor.
Mr. H. D. Polhemus and Mr. N. H. Mitchell announce themselves to-day as Independent candidates for the office of Supervisor for the 4th District. Both gentlemen are well known as men possessing an intimate knowledge of road and bridge matters in this part of the county. Mr. Polhemus was formerly agent of the Land Company, and as such had occasion to travel much and study local interests. Mr. Mitchell is at present a Road master for this township. The candidate, running for the nomination on the Democratic ticket is Mr. Gustave Davis.
OATS—BEAT IT—Col John L. Strong, sends us from the Bost Cause a bunch of Dickson Barbary Oats about five feet high, and containing fifty stalks all from a single grain. Col S informs us that the seed were sent to him by Dickson to test here. They were sown on the 28th of March, were twice eaten to the ground by the chickens and horses, and now develop from 20 to 50 to each grain, with heads from 15 to 25 inches in length. He also assures us, that they are superior to Norway Oats, of so much reputation, he having seen the two crops growing side by side at Dickson's. The originator of this variety has made no attempt to extend the culture of this valuable cereal.

Anaheim is becoming the social center of this county. Balls, entertainments, and private parties are almost of daily occurrence.
There is a rumor that a Spanish school is soon to be started in Anaheim.
Ripe Grapes.—Mrs. Metts, has sent us some bunches of perfectly ripe grapes from her vineyard. We believe they are the first that have yet ripened in Anaheim.
Exercise Before Breakfast.
Outdoor exercise before breakfast is never healthful and from the very nature of things is hurtful, especially to persons in poor health. The very vigorous persons may practice it with impunity. In winter the body is easily emiled through and through unless the stomach has been tortured with a warm breakfast. In warm weather mismasticated and malicious gases and emissions specifically act on empty stomachs in a way to vitrate the circulation and increase ever agile diarrhea and dysentery. Entire nations have arranged to eat breakfast for leaving the house, have had coffee exception from fries, while community members were offering from it, from having neglected these precautions. Therefore drink a cup of coffee with a biscuit added before going out in the morning. Dr. TAYLOR.
Alleged Misstatement Corrected.
Some days since we republished, from the Anaheim Alpine, a statement to the effect that the postmaster at Gallatin had tried to suppress the circulation of that paper. Mr. Frankel indignantly denies the charge, and declares that he has been and still is ready to deliver the paper to all who call for it. The paper he states, are, many of them fire-simply Smith or Jones.
bel defines his position, we find great questions discussed viz: Strobel is a good Democrat, wants an office very badly. The must be the questions which so "might affect the welfare of the community."
Nobody ever accused Strobel of being a Republican; and it is to be held for the honor of that party, that no ever will.
That he wants an office—well, we know that—It is a chronic compartment with him; but his fitness for office one except himself and a few other dupes has ever discovered. When there in this man's platform that people irrespective of party, must to his support? County division one of his issues—(If the “Ring” share their plunder with him how oppose County division). See first member of the Advocate.
No “railroad subsidies” is a plan the St to platforms of both parties no candidate of either party can nominated without pledging himself oppose subsidies. Ellis is all right the “no fence law” and so will the publican candidates be when nominates As to an “equitable adjustment of water question,” the farmers in neighborhood of Anaheim have specimen of his equitable adjustment and will adjust their votes according next September. A “reduction of salaries” Burns who receives fees than any other officer in the county is the put of Strobel’s organ, “man note of that,’ will you? Strobel ce upon capturing a large part of the publican vote. If he was the advocate of any local issue advantageous to people of this section, we might ignore politics and support him—there is nothing in his platform but what our candidates will be pledge to. What any Republican hope to gain by porting a man who avows that he staunch Democrat, and scorns called an Independent—who proclaim that he will support democratic interests in the Legislature and hope have a chance of proving his allegi

The paper he states, are many of them fired simply "...Smith" or ...Jones" (and his statements in this regard we are able to confirm by personal observation), and he thinks that he is not called upon to scour the country and certain the particular Smith or Jones for whom the paper is intended. The paper is circulated gratuitously, and he thinks that the best he can do is to deliver properly marked copies and permit any who wish it to take the others. We make this statement at the request of Mr. Frankel, who claims to have been misrepresented in the matter. We add, as a matter of justice, that we have never had any complaint regarding the delivery of the News since the present incumbent has been in office"—Los Angeles News.
Mr. Frankel has always delivered the Gazette properly.
