ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SATURDAY, JUNE 24, 1871. It could na be His Wife.—Johnny Daelittle was a dribblin,' drunken auid couter, who liket a dram better than his wife, an' a joke an' a crack better than his ain wark. Ae nitcht Johnny was sittin' "cracky" wi' Tam Anderson, at the public roun' the corner, "Fat by an ingle Blerk in Anne Ir. Wi' remin' awate that drank dirinely." When in pops Janet on his tap,-Johnny seeing his wife—wha liket a bit taste hersel'—sit down and begin to craek earnestly wi' Tom, slips oot cannily, rins hame, bars the door, and slips into bed afore you could say Jack Robinson. By-and-by Janet comes and raps at the door. "Wha's there?" cries Johnny, when he had allowed his wife to knock till her knuckless were sair, and her temper was quickly evaporated. "Yer ain wife, John," cried Janet. "Fa, na; ye cannot my wife," returned Johnny, wi' provoking coolness, "for my wife is up in Tam Anderson's, sit-tin' drinkin' wi' a lot o'men." Grand Baby Show at St. Louis last Friday. 40 single babies 7 pair twins and 1 set of triplets entered for premiums. You will find among your acquaintances that the best cultivated men are least consoited; the pedantic are men of less understanding; when they get into a higher level there comes along with culture more and more of child-like simplicity.
