RULES OF THIS OFFICE.
All Communications, Marriages, Births, Deaths and Advertisements should be sent to the Office on or before Thursday morning. In order to insure their publication on the following Saturday morning.
Accepted.
The editor of this paper, accepts the polite invitation of the citizens of Santa Ana, to deliver the Oration at their celebration on the 4th of July next.
Peoples Convention.
A call has been issued for a Peoples Convention, irrespective of party, to take action upon the purely local question of County Division. The general discovery of treachery—in a quarter where it has long been known to exist by a few together with a disposition on the part of the people to express their wishes and take personal action upon this subject, has led to this spontaneous call.
With the people all subjects are safe, and this matter, by this convention is brought directly to them. Heretofore it has been the profitable office of individuals, to make incursions upon the public benevolence and charity, under the pretext of a desire to accomplish this object, and alternately to bleed both those for and against the measure. The people are now thoroughly on the alert, and with a keen desire to have something done, propose to take their own mode of doing it.
We must secure a Supervisor from Anaheim or Santa Ana, in the next County Board. It is the extreme point of injustice to be deprived of representation in that body. Our petitions for roads, and our applications generally,
Sidewalk
It would be a great concern well as an appreciable continuous sidewalk constructed along the streets unless portion of our city and down-and-break-neck the south side of Center convince everyone of the need to commence to sidewalk subject. If the persons are required by ordinance one-half the expense of the city should meet the insignificant cost. Let it continue sidewalks by all.
GRASSHOPPER CANDIDATE feasible plan yet thought out of the grasshoppers, in reward of ten cents each their scalps. We will submit pledged to work in the next Legislature hopper candidate is not the field, let him annex.
Division.—The Venture following:
A division of Los Angeles being urged. It is enough for two or more Southern California will fair representation until counties are divided.
Music — M. Gray, M. San Francisco, has sent pieces of new music of series: one entitled "Flirti has a merry jingle.
Santa Ana
A forty acre field of white town, with heads seven inches in the best condition, is a Mr. Th. Casad, and
We must secure a Supervisor from Anaheim or Santa Ana, in the next County Board. It is the extreme point of injustice to be deprived of representation in that body. Our petitions for reads, and our applications generally, are now passed over in contempt and never heard from again. It would also be well to secure a Deputy County Asssessor, resident here, so that the Board of equalization will not be visited so often by our people.
To Celebrate.
The citizens of Santa Ana, are going to celebrate the glorious 4th of July with all the pomp and circumstance required by the occasion. Salutes will be fired, Declaration of Independence will be read by a well known lady, and an oration will be delivered: A pavilion will be constructed for dancing; and lastly a high old lunch will be spread for all, beneath the gigantic sycamores of upwards of six hundred years growth.
Nominations.
At the Democratic State Convention held in Sacramento on the 20th instant, H. H. Haight was nominated for Governor E. J. Lewis for Lieut. Governor; and Jackson Temple and Selden S. Wright for Supreme Judges.
During this week we have had thunder, lightning, rain and a brilliant aurora Borealis, at Anaheim—and the grasshoppers have not left.
Council.—The regular session of the Common Council takes place on Monday next, at 3 o'clock P.M. The ordinance reducing licenses will be presented for action; as also the report on Finance Committee on the fiscal appropriation.
New Houses.—Two new houses have been built on Center street, below the Cooper shop of Mr. Westphal, since our last issue. Also...
Common Council takes place on Monday next, at 3 o'clock P.M. The ordinance reducing licenses will be presented for action; as also the report of Finance Committee on the fiscal appropriation.
New Houses.—Two new houses have been built on Center street, below the Cooper shop of Mr. Westphal, since our last issue. Also, a fine warehouse in rear of the old Eureka Saloon.

The Fourth—Extensive preparations are being made to celebrate the 4th of July at Los Angeles.
Anaheim has no Fire Company or fire apparatus, although much "Talk" was lately had upon the subject.
Festival.—We understand that the Presbyterian festival, the arrangements for which have been in charge of the ladies of Anaheim for some time past, is to come off in about two weeks.
The Steamers Orizaba and California will arrive at Wilmington this Morning.
The new butcher shop opens to-day.
Sidewalks.
Should be a great convenience, as is an appreciable enterprise, if numerous sidewalks could be constructed along the streets of the business portion of our city. The hop up-town and break-neck condition of both side of Center Street, should pose everyone of this necessity, must commence to consider the walk subject. If the property own-required by ordinance to meet half the expense of construction, they should meet the balance of the significant cost. Let us have consideration sidewalks by all means.
Shopper Candidate.—The only plan yet thought of, for getting the grasshoppers, is, that a State bill of ten cents each be offered for balps. We will support the cannledged to work for this measure in the next Legislature. It a Grass-candidate is not already in field, let him announce himselfSION.—The Ventura Signal has following:
Division of Los Angeles county is surged. It is certainly large for two or more counties, and North California will never get a representation until these large areas are divided.
M. Gray, Music publisher Francisco, has sent us a couple of new music of the Carl Hessone entitled "Flirting on Skates" merry jingle.
