Mrs. Fair in Jail.
The San Francisco Call gives the annexed account of Mrs. Fair in jail.
The cell in which the prisoner has been confined since the jury found her guilty is on the western side of the County Jail proper, on the second corridor, and lighted by a narrow grated window at the back. The furniture which it contains, and which was provided by the prisoner at her own expense, consists of a plain bedstead, a small table, two chairs, and nothing more. Mrs. Fair is dressed in a neat, plain black dress; the same which she wore in Court during the trial. These garbs of mourning are worn in remembrance of Mr Crittenden, whose life she took. The greater portion of the day she passes indifference She reads neither books nor newspapers. The one act of her eventful life which placed her behind a prison door preoccupies her mind, and she feels no interest in anything except what affects her directly or the welfare of her child. In the morning she seldom rises before ball pass ten o'clock. The effects of her confinement in a cell are quite noticeable on her countenance which has assumed a hue that is only attained when persons are put in a place where sunlight does not enter. She longs to be removed into the rooms fronting Broadway, where she was confined before she was tried. Her meals—two days—aare brought to her from a restaurant, andher breakfastshe recieves every morninginbed.Sheisvisitedeverydaybyhers physicianDr.J.B.Irask.HermotherMiss.Laneandder daughteralsovisitherdailyTheyarenlimitedinhervitishtoone houreachday, andtheyandhor attorneyandsmedicalattendantaredonlyones, besidesthematronofthelawwhohassolechargeoftherisonnerMr.Fairexpresstoad desirenotto
