PRESERVE THE TREES.—Many of our citizens talk of cutting down the ever-green willows that form the hedges along their vineyards, and placing board fences in their stead. Tree hedges of such magnificent growth as those of Anaheim, should be allowed to remain, not only on account of their use as a fence, but for the picturesque beauty they add to our city. The green lanes and streets of all that portion of the city not occupied for business purposes, should be carefully preserved in all their glory. If they are cut down, Anaheim will lose one of her principal charms. "Woodman, spare that tree."
If you don't mean to mind your own business, it will not pay to advertise
The parties in charge of the fire organization are making good headway in their undertaking.
MARINE LEISON — On Wednesday we noticed an item that would have been the Local of the Star stand on his head for joy—the same being a drunken and braised Indian, lying unconscious in the tide of a swiftly flowing zanja.
FINE SPECIMENS — On Tuesday last, we noticed forty-seven square looking boys, going on the double quick from Mr. Guinn's school, down Center street. The lot appeared to average four feet in height, and fifteen inches in width. They were of a nut brown color, and well clad. In about three years, these young roosters will become "sparkable" young men—after which, dull times in
TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. — On Tuesday evening of this week, as our well known townsmen, Messrs. Ed., Polhemus and F.A. Goodrich, were driving on the road to San Juan, something got tangled, and their horses (a very fiery and savage team) took fright and ran away. Mr. Goodrich, who understands handling animals, thought he would run them into the alobe station on the road, but, thinking the owner might sue him for damages, turned them back into the road, which, as our readers all know, is very narrow at that point, and accidentally ran into a telegraph pole, smashing the fine buggy into a thousand fragments, and compelling the gentlemen to walk 20 miles to San Juan. Neither were hurt much; Mr. Polhemus' face being slightly scratched above the left eye, and Mr. Goodrich hort slightly about the neck.
If you have a good thing advertise it it will make you happy.
New Waverley — At the morning of the 21st inst., the petition of S.S. Dunnels & Co., for waart francisse at Newport, after testimony was taken and argument heard, was granted.
PAVEMENT. — A fine asphaltum pavement has been laid along the walk in front of the building formerly occupied as a store by Langenberger & Co.
NEED OF SCHOOLS — There is much need of a school on the Bolsas, at the Sears' settlement. We are informed by a resident of that locality, that there are twenty families now living there who have altogether upward of thirty children entitled to public schooling.

If you can arouse curiosity by an advertisement it is a great point gained. The fair sex don't hold all the curiosity in the world.
OPPOSITION — The hotel and boarding house opposition in Anaheim is assuming amusing, if not gigantic features. At hours of meal-time, huge bells are jingled with great display from three houses, eighty feet apart; and, with all the fags, it is seldom any poor victim is thereby lured to strange "hash."
Rev Wm. Moores will preach at Post Office Hall on Sunday, April 24th. Services at 11 A.M., and probably at 7 P.M.

NEED OF SCHOOLS — There is much need of a school on the Bolsas, at the Sears' settlement. We are informed by a resident of that locality, that there are twenty families now living there who have altogether upward of thirty children entitled to public schooling. The Williams' settlement also has about the same number, and schools should be established at both places, at once.
Don't be afraid to invest in printer's ink, lest your sands of life be nearly run out.
President Grant is to visit San Francisco in April or May next. Arrangements are being made to receive him irrespective of party.
Weather prophets of reputation at San Francisco, prophecy abundant late rains this season.
NIX — The opposition steamer has ceased to carry the express of Herber & Co.
TALL RYE — We have been shown specimens of rye, 36 inches in height, which was sown on the 28th of December last on the ranch of Mr. Olden. This is one subsoliled land, which has had no irrigation, and is a fare sample of a 45-acre lot of the same. A marked difference is observable between this rye and that growing on an adjacent 20 acre lot which has not been subsoliled.
A daily stage is now running between San Bernardino and Riverside.
