ANAHEIM GAZETTE SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1871. RAIN. — We had a moderate shower of rain at Anaheim, on Sunday last. On Thursday night it again poured down, and continued at intervals during Friday. The total fall for the week, up to Friday moon, was not less than $\frac{1}{4}$ of an inch. SOLD OUT. — Mr. George Knuchel, who has long been identified with the butchering business of Anaheim, has sold out his entire interest in that business to Wartenberg & Co. Mr. Wartenberg is, consequently, making extraordinary efforts to supply our people with choice meats, and frequently stays up all night neglecting his health, that the people may have porter-house and surroins for breakfast. Mr. Knuchel, having made an ample fortune in the business, is about to make a pleasure trip through Europe and the Holy Land. THUNDER. — Yesterday, at about 3 o'clock, P. M., loud peals of thunder rolled along the foothills to the east of the city. This electrical action appeared to take place in a long, densely black cloud, that bordered the mountains. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. — The Gazette office acknowledges the receipt of one hundred feet of apples, from the lumber yard of Dicken, Huntington & Co. Mr. Huntington has our thanks, and when we require a few dozen lumber, or a ton of redwood posts, we will give him a call. ZELL'S ENCYCLOPEDIA. — The country hereabouts is being canvassed for Zell's Encyclopedia, a new and exhaustive work in press, and of which Fran- ZELL'S ENCYCLOPEDIA.—The country hereabouts is being canvassed for Zell's Encyclopedia, a new and exhaustive work now in press, and of which Francis Dewing & Co., of San Francisco, are agents. It is a complete dictionary of language, fully illustrated, and is selling at $32 per copy. STRAIGHTENING THE WATER DITCH.—The Anaheim Water Company are now busily engaged in straightening the line of ditch which supplies the greater portion of sections 9 and 16 with water for irrigating; a much needed improvement, and one which the settlers in that district will appreciate. GONE.—The Theatrical Company, lately performing at the Merced Theatre at Los Angeles, took their departure for San Francisco on the Wm. Tabor yesterday. MISSED — We have missed the Freight List for the past two weeks. Hope our friends at the Landing will be more prompt in its transmission hereafter. DOWN.—The down steamers leave San Francisco to-morrow, and will arrive at Wilmington Tuesday morning, racing all the way. NEW BUILDING.—Mr. Schneider, has had a new and spacious wine-shed constructed, the walls being of brick. He has also erected a new wine-still—the largest in Anaheim. ANOTHER DITCH.—a new water ditch is being constructed from the Santa Ana along the Pierce, Martin and Olden valley, laying between Anaheim and the Coyote House. CLOUD BURST.—Mr. Guinn, who returned to Anaheim from the residence of Mr. W. M. McFadden, at 8 o'clock last night, reports that the whole country thereabouts is overflowed, and that a stream of water, one hundred and sixty yards wide and four feet deep, is office acknowledges the receipt of one hundred feet of apples, from the lumber yard of Dicken, Huntington & Co. Los Nietos, 2d grade, 149 children taught by Mr. Reavis holding 1st grade County Certificate, salary $70; school open nine months past year. New River, 2d grade, 58 children, teacher, salary $75; school open six months past year. Santa Ana, 2d grade, 284 children taught by Mr. McFadden (Co. Supt.) holding State Educational Diploma salary $100, school open 10 months past year. San Jose, 2d grade, 89 children,taught by Mr. Fryer (probationary), salary $70; school open eight months past year. San Juan, 2d grade 184 children taught by Mr. Crowell holding 2d grade County Certificate, salary $60; school open ten months past year. Eleven schools in the county pay $salary, eleven pay $70, three pay $seven pay $80, two pay $90, four pay $100, and one pays $150. This gives an average of about $75 per month to the teachers of the county. The amended school law now requires every public school in the county to be kept open at least eight months in the year, except in those districts whose tax property does not exceed $75,000 containing not more than 25 children between the ages of five and fifteen. RUNAWAY.—On Monday last, while the stage was tipping over on Central street Dr. Heyerman's favorite bug horse took fright and ran away a tearful speed. DAIRY.—An extensive dairy is being established about two miles below Santa Ana by Mr. Jerome Porter, formerly Los Angeles He now has on hand hundred cows, and is purchasing continually, intending to increase the number to two hundred and fifty. Supplies will be furnished regularly from the dairy after the 20th instant. NEW FIRM.—S. H. Simon & Co., (S. Simon and B. Simon) have establish Commission Houses at Los Angeles San Francisco, for the purchase sale of the products of the company Mr. B. Simon of this firm was lately notified with the merchandizing house Davis & Bre Anaheim. We wish Cloud Burst.—Mr. Guinn, who returned to Anaheim from the residence of Mr. W. M. It appears that the heavy clouds soon yesterday to the east, and which were full of thunder, burst in the Soquol mountains near the head of the canon, and inundated a large area of country. San Francisco Produce Market Report. SAN FRANCISCO, February 9. All city mills have advanced their prices. Flour market advanced, at $6 52 @7 25. Wheat market quiet; sales of fair milling, $2 25a2 50. Barley—Sale of 1,400 sacks good brewing at $1 45; fair feed to choice bay brewing, $1 37. Beans—bayo. $2 50@6 22½; butter, 2 25@2 75; pea, $3a2 25; small white, at 1 90; pink and red, 2@2 25. Corn—Quoted at 1 50a2 50. Potatoes—Sales; 2,000 sacks Humboldt in lots at 1 55 range for all kinds, 1 50@1 75 per 100 pounds. Onions—Fair to choice at 1 25@1 50. New York, February 9.—Flour nominal wheat, 1 70@1 75; Barley, 90c; Cotton, quiet at 15¢c; Pork, 20; lard, 13¢@15. Hides, dull; dry, 23@24c., salted.
