ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 1871. A Gushing Youth Captured by an Aged Spinster. A St. Louis correspondent thus describes how a nice young man "stood off" his board bill: At a fashionable boarding-house, on a fashionable thoroughfare, in this fashionable "future city," an incident occurred recently, of so unusually romantic a nature as to deserve passing notice. The house was, but is not, kept by a maiden lady, who, of the temporal allotment vouchsafed mankind, has passed three score and five years, and in the management of her establishment she was assisted by her nephew a bright lad of fifteen summers. Mrs. B——(for such was her name), unlike most fashionable boarding-house keepers I ever heard of, had, by close attention to business, and persona, supervision of her household affairs, accumulated a snug little fortune, to wit: thirty or forty thousand dollars, and was comfortably situated. Last Summer a handsome and fashionable young man, apparently about twenty years of age, came here from England, and engaged at a high figure an elegantly furnished room and board at the house aforesaid. He seemed to have no business, and for a time paid his monthly bills with a regularity of clock-work. It was no ticed, however, that he no longer wore the costly jewelry he displayed on his arrival, and it soon became apparent to the landlady that he was out of funds. She seized upon his costly trunk and contents during his absence one day, which she had no right to do under our laws, and he obtained a writ of replevin for its recovery, and accompanied an officer to the house to identify it. The constable took a seat in the hall while the young man and the lady parleyed in the parlor. The consequence was, the young man came out and paid the costs that had accrued, and gave directions for the dismissal of the suit. The constable took a seat in the hall while the young man and the lady parleyed in the parlor. The consequence was, the young man came out and paid the costs that had accrued, and gave directions for the dismissal of the suit. He had offered the spinster his band and heart, which she accepted. "Whoever woman in this humor would? Whoever woman in this humor would?" His father, who was a wealthy Birmingham manufacturer, had failed, because hopelessly insane, and no longer able to send promised remittances. They were married the next day, the house and fixtures were sold, and he is now engaged in a profitable business, all of which proves at least that "There never was a goose so gray, But some day, soon or late, An honest gander came that way. And caught her for his mate." In one of Swedenborg's visits to the other world he came upon the former citizens of London, and he gravely tells us that their abode and dress "are similar to what they wore on earth. I inquired, and found that they had wine, beer, chocolate tea, and the like. I asked also for the liquor, punch, and learned that they had it, but likewise that was only allowed to the industrious and sincere." Such a material, sensuous heaven as this, must have entered through 'Gates Ajar,' what a promotive industry and sincerity would be an allowance of "liquor and punch" on this earth of ours; and what inducement to go to heaven—to get the allowance. Patent Medicine. TO PHYSICIANS. New York, August 14th, 1868. Allow me to call your attention to my Preparation of Compound Extract Buchu. The component parts are Buchu, Long Lead, Cubchus Janipen Berries. Mode of Preparation—Buchu in vacuo. Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a fine grain. Cubchus extracted by displacement with spirits obtained from Juniper Berries; very little sugar is used, and a small proportion of spirit is more palatable than any now in use. Buchu as prepared by Druggists is of a dark color. It is a plant that emits in fragrance the action of a flame destroys this (its active principle), leaving a dark and glutinous deodorant. Mineral is the color of ingredients. The Buchu in its preparation predominates; the smallest quantity of the other ingredients are added, in prevent fermentation; upon inspection it will be found not to be a Tincture, as make in Pharmacopia, nor is it a Syrup—and therefore can be used in cases where fever or indigestion exist. In this you have the knowledge of the ingredients and the mode of preparation; Hoping that you will favor it with a trist, and that upon inspection it will meet with your appreciation. HELMBOLD’S FLUID EXTRACT Buchu For weakness arising from indigestion. The exhausted powers of nature which are accompanied by so many alarming symptoms, among which will be found, indisposition to exertion, loss of memory, wakefulness, horror of disease, or foreshadows of evil; in fact, universal latitude, proportion, and inability to enter into the enjoyments of society. THE CONSTITUTION Once affected with organic weakness, requires the aid of medicine to strengthen and invigorate the system, which Helmbold’s Extract Buchu invariably does. If no treatment is submitted to, Consumption or insanity ensues. Helmbold’s Fluid Extract of Buchu In affection peculiar to females, is unequalled by any other preparation, as in chlorosis, or retention colonies, or suppression of customary evaluations, ulcerated or solitary state of the Uterus and if complaints incident to the sex, or the decoise or change of life. Helmbold’s Fluid Extract Euchu AND Improved Rose Wash will radically exterminate from the system diseases arising from habit of dissipation, at little expense; little or no change in diet; no inconvenience or exposure; completely superceding those improvements and dangerous remedies. Copaiva san Mercury, in all these diseases. USE THEY ARE NOT A VILE FANCY DRINK, Made of Dum Rum, Whiskey, Proof Spirits and Refuse Liquors doctored, spiced and sweetened to please the taste, called "Tennessee". Apparently, this drink is not a popular choice among the public. McLennan's company produces it in New York. It is a great blood purifier and life-giving prince. But it does not tolerate heat or strong acidity. Restoring the blood is necessary. No person can take these drinks according to directions and remain long well. For inflammatory and chronic rheumatism and gout, Dyspepsia or indigestion, bilious remittent and intermittent fevers, dyscnesis of the blood, liver, kidneys, and bladder, these disorders have been most successful. Such diseases are caused by Vitinted Blood, which is generally produced by derangement of the digestive organs. DYSPEPSIA OR INDIGESTION. Headache, Pain in the Shoulders, Coughs, Tightness of the Chest, Dizziness, Sour Eruptions of the Stomach, Bad Gas in the Month Billions Attacks, Palpitation of the Heart, Inflammation of the lungs, Pain in the regions of the Kidneys, and a hundred other painful symptoms, are the offspring of Dyspepsia. They invigorate the Stomach and stimulate the torpid liver and bowels, which render them of unequalled efficacy in cleansing the blood of all impurities, and imparting new life and vigor to the whole system. FOR SKIN DISEASES, Eruptions, Tetter, Salt Rheum, Blotches, Spots, Pimples, Pruritus, Boils, Carbuncles, Ring-Worms, Scald-Head, Sore Eyes, Erysipelas, Itch, Scrubs, Discolorations of the Skin, Humors and Diseases of the skin, of whatever name or nature, are literally dug up and carried out of the system in a short time by the age of three Bitterns. One bottle in each jar will convince the most incredulous of their curative effects. Cleanse the Vitilated Blood whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in Pruritus; or forces clearance when you find it obstructed and sluggish in the veins; clears it when it's foul; and your feelings will tell you when. Keep the blood pure and the health of the system will follow. PEN-TAPE and other WORMS, hurting in the system of so many thousands, are effectually destroyed and removed. For full directions, read carefully the circular around each bottle. J. WALKER, Proprietor. R. H. McDONALD & CO., Wrightsville High School. The Princeton City and County Street. New York. Those suffering from broken down or delicate constitutions, procure the remedy at once. The reader must be aware that however slight may be the attack, it is certain to affect the bodily health and mental powers. All the above diseases require the aid of a diuretic.
