ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1870. A lady who was desperately addicted to play was confessing herself. The priest, among other arguments to dissuade her from gambling, said she "ought to consider the loss of time." "Ah, father," she said, "that's always what vexes me; so much time is lost in shuffling." THE FEMALE WALKISTS.—The great female pedestrian match in San Francisco has been won by May Chapman. At twenty minutes to three o'clock Sunday morning her opponent Forrestelle, said she could not walk any longer, and was helped from the platform. Mrs Chapman had then walked sixty-five hours, but she declared her intention of walking an additional hour, which she accordingly did. She was nearly as lively at the close as at the commencement of the match, while her opponent was much exhausted. The match was for $500 and the entrance money. Puget succeeded in adjusting the eye of a flea, so that by means of the microscope he was enabled to see object thro' it. Thus a soldier appeared like an army of pigmies. A Boston woman said that she would do anything to make her husband happy, and the next day she took a dose of laudum and died. It had the desired effect, and he said he never enjoyed a funeral so much in his life. Some woman are unselfish. We wish Mr. Barter and his enterprise unbounded success. The paper is about the size of the Miner, and makes a creditable appearance.—Prescott Miner. An Iowa man tried to kiss a neighbor's wife, but before he got through the lady hit him on the head with a rolling-pin and put him out of doors. The husband took a revolver and went to him for satisfaction, but concluded to settle it by taking the villain's note for ten dollars, which he traded off for a corn-plow. The man who holds the note can't collect it, the giver claiming that he did not get value received. ANAHEIM BUSINESS DIRECTORY. Denters in General Merchandise. Langenberger & Co, Center street. Allow me to call your attention to my Preparation at Compound Extract Buchu. The component parts are Buchu, Long Leaf, Cabella Juniper Berries. Mode of Preparation—Buchu in vacuo. Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a fine glacial cabeba extracted by displacement with spirits obtained from Juniper Berries; very little sugar is used, and a small proportion of spirit. It is more palatable than any now in use. Buchu as prepared by Druggists is of a dark color. It is a plant that emits its fragrance; the action of a flame destroys this (its active principle), leaving a dark and glutinous decoction. Mine is the color of ingredients. The Buchu in my preparation predominates; the smallest quantity of the other ingredients are added to prevent fermentation; upon inspection it will be found not to be a Tincture, as makes in Pharmacephes, nor is it a Syrup—and therefore can be used in cases where fever or inflammation exist. In this, you have the knowledge of the ingredients and the mode of preparation. Hoping that you will favor it with a trial, and that upon inspection it will meet with your appreciation. With a feeling of profound confidence, I am, very respectfully, H. T. HELMBOLD, Chemist and Druggist of 19 years' Experience. (From the largest Manufacturing Chemists in the World.) November 4, 1854. "I am acquainted with Mr. H. T. Helmbold; he occupied the Drug Store opposite my residence, and was successful in conducting the business where others had not been equally so before him.
