Brooms should be wet in boiling suds once a week. By this they become tough and more lasting. They do not cut the carpet; dip your broom into a bucket of water and shake off the drops. Do this frequently as you sweep, and the water will show how much dirt it has transferred to the bucket. Wet tea leaves, effect a similar purpose less completely.
A minister at Alliance (O.) is going to bring suit against a man for over $49,000, for marrying him. Fifteen years ago he married the man, who wanted to pay in potatoes to morrow. He said he would give six bushels of potatoes down, and double the number of bushels every year, until the minister was paid. As it has been fourteen years, and "nary" potatoe come yet, it amounts to 98,000 bushels, and at 50 cents a bushel, to $49,000.
Fifty-three eagles were taken by the Germans at Metz.
Monte Diablo now wears its first coating of snow for the season.
Napoleon can, if he likes, play billiards on the table of his royal uncle, King Jerome, at Wilhelmshone.
The Emperor Napoleon's plate is low warehoused in St. Catherine's Dock, London. It is all silver, and weighs 32,000 ounces.

Three out of the five who composed the party have died, and the two survivors are unable to proceed, as they have no engineer for the little steamer which they took with them, and which was specially designed for the inland navigation of East Africa.
