Tuesday, December 27, 1921 The Same Incalculable What Frank Strong Has Done You Can Do, Too, If You Will Frank Strong of Los Angeles has just retired on a vast fortune made in real estate investments. He wisely bought land when prices were low and waited with serene faith in the future of Los Angeles—the Marvel City of the world. His faith was justified in the amazing development of the city. The day arrived when every tick of fortune's clock sent the values of his holdings skyward. Here are some of the things Frank Strong has done: Sold Seventh street frontage for $50 a foot, since sold for $1,300 a foot. Bought Central avenue corner for $15,000, now refitted for $21,-000 a year. Paid $1,100 an acre for Venice acreage. One 50-foot lot recently sold for $25,000. Paid $2,000 an acre for tract at Sixth and Rampart. Has refused offer of $55,000 for corner lot. What is true of Los Angeles is also true in proportion of Anaheim. What Frank Strong has done, YOU can do, too! But YOU must act at once—today—right now—if you are to gather all the profits in value increases. Do not be deceived by the subtle FRAUD of TOMORROW—that day never, never, never comes to countless men and women. Put your money to work for yourself. There are so many opportunities for investment in Anaheim real estate, that you could select almost any one of them BLINDFOLDED and you could not possibly escape the gratification of harvesting big rapid development of the splendid growing, prosperous city. Whether you are seeking a desirable HOME-SITE or a profitable INVESTMENT you may search through Southern California, or anywhere else, and you will be unable to find a community possessing more attractive residence features than you will find in Anaheim; or a prospect which offers more assurance of big returns on really investments. Everybody who has studied the local situation knows that the destiny of Anaheim is inspiring. The wise ones—the foresighted are busy buying everything they can possibly handle. These are the ones who will cash in on the big winners! Why not be wise then? It's up to you! Everybody possesses "HIND-SIGHT!" How often have you listened to disappointed men and women tell of the "chances" they missed? How they had been offered good land "for a song." How they "passed the chance up." How they could have retired as Frank Strong has just retired with a vast fortune—IF they had only "acted on the impulse" and bought the land THEN and walted until the day when the land had turned to gold! Of course these "HIND-SIGHTED" persons lacked initiative, courage and the genius to prosper. They were unthrifty! But you have no aspirations to follow their example have you? So KNOWING what has come to pass and what will inevitably come to pass again, why not obey LIVES IMPERILED A WATERS REAC (Continued from 1916 and no serious data done except to excite to deter future growthments, in this respect already lost more than cost to have strengthen river bank where there is danger of the city." Rain Record The precipitation shot night in Anaheim was bringing the total for lod up to 7.18 inches, for the season up to compared with 3.02 inch date last season. City Streets F Some of the streets owed scenes like this morning. Most of the water when flowed down N streets and spread out country. He further said that Anaheim's steady development means a far greater increase in property values than is generally realized. The Valencia Square tract, which is being handled by Ross Brothers, is one of the best restricted of any or the choice residential district in Anaheim and they believe offers lots that are priced lower than any others of equal value in the city. They have found a great demand for residence lots that can be purchased at fair prices and believe that no better indication of the legitimate growth of a city can be had than a desire on the part of its citizens to own their own homes. Youth and Sweetheart End Lives With Poison PASSAIG, N.J., Dec. 27.—Thomas Brands, 18, and Matilda Rist, his 17-year-old sweetheart, died of strychnine poisoning early today. They didn't have money enough to marry in life, so they decided to wed through death, the boy explained to police just before his last convulsion seized him. CLAIRMONT CONTINUES TO PRAISE ANAHEIM LAND VALUES The condition of the weather has nothing to do with the activities of Harold Clairmont. Rain or shine he can be found preaching the text of "Buy something in Anaheim." Mr. Clairmont says that he has a large listing of properties that includes orange groves, residence properties, business properties and vacant lots. The recent rains, he claims, are making it apparent on every grove that a piece of California is indeed a piece of gold. He says that there is no better place for the safe and profitable investment of money than in property in and around Anaheim. 300 FULLERTON HOMES BUILT THIS YEAR; MORE NEEDED More than 300 houses have been built in Fullerton this year and that number of houses has barely absorbed a fraction of those needing homes. The city council has under consideration a plan to loan to the board of trade a sufficient sum of money to erect thirty or more tent houses. This plan proposes the erection of a number of two-room structures, partly of wood and partly of canvas, to take care of present conditions. Foley's Friendly Fancies WIDEAWKE AND SLEEPYHEAD Oh, you little Wideawake, Sitting here upon my knee. Hearing stories, nibbling cake, What will Mother say to me When she hears the clock strike nine? You remember what she said? Foley's Friendly Fancies WIDEAWAKE AND SLEEPYHEAD Oh, you little Wideawake, Sitting here upon my knee. Hearing stories, nibbling cake, What will Mother say to me When she hears the clock strike nine? You remember what she said? Such a scolding, yours and mine, For you ought to be in bed. You remember what she said Little auditor of mine: 'Half-past eight is time for bed!' Look! And now the clock strikes nine! Oh, the scolding we will get Just the minute that she comes If she finds us reveling yet With the fairies and the gnomes. Oh, you little Wideawake With your starry eyes that shine And your voice that begs for cake, And the clock that's striking nine! We must leave the elves and gnomes, You must hurry off to bed, And before your mother comes I must hide my guilty head. We can't hide the crime we've done. Nor the secret we can keep. For tomorrow will the sun Find you fast, so fast asleep! I can hear your mother say: "Who kept Wideawake from bed?" With the gnomes and elves at play? Made her little Sleepyhead?" And she'll find the scattered crumbs, And she'll find the fairy book, Yes, and when the morning comes She will know my guilty look. When she calls and says: "Now there!" Look at little Lie-abed!" Tell me, Little Mischief, where Will I hide my guilty head? LIVES IMPERILED AS FLOOD WATERS REACH THIS CITY (Continued from Page One) 1916 and no serious damage has been done except to excite the people and to deter future growth and improvements, in this respect Anaheim has already lost more than it would have cost to have strengthened all of the river bank where there is any possible danger of the waters reaching the city." Rain Record Broken The precipitation since Saturday night in Anaheim was 2.34 inches, bringing the total for the storm: period up to 7.18 inches, and the total for the season up to 8.61 inches as compared with 3.02 inches up to this date last season. City Streets Flooded Some of the streets of Anaheim presented scenes like those of Venice this morning. On South Los Angeles street a number of youngsters were seen towing a boat along the sidewalk, the street was flooded from the city limits on the south to the Southern Pacific railway tracks and there was from eighteen inches to two feet of water on North Los Angeles street. Most of the water where the river cut through flowed down North and South streets and spread out over the flat country. No damage was done to Orange groves with the exception of where the river cut through from the main channel the grove at this point was washed considerable. ALICE BRADY FEATURES WONDERFUL BILL AT GALIFORNIA Fleeing Convicts, Trying To Aid Injured, Caught AUBURN, N. Y., Dec. 27—Five convicts recently found guilty of rioting in the yard of Auburn prison failed in an attempt to escape on Christmas night through their efforts to carry away one of their number, who had broken his leg in flight. This became known today when prison officials announced one criminal had been slain and the others recaptured. None succeeded in scaling the outer wall. Police of Omaha Rout Strikers With Bayonets OMAHA, Dec. 27.—Open defiance of police was manifested here last night by large crowds of packing plant strikers. Two men were arrested after they had assaulted a policeman attempting to disarm them. When officers arrested a man near the Armour plant and were waiting for a patrol wagon, a crowd gathered and against threatened to free the prisoners, police said. START THE NEW ALICE BRADY FEATURES WONDERFUL BILL AT CALIFORNIA People nowadays love to see good motion pictures. They love to be entertained. It is a regular part of their curriculum. Therefore, the theaters are striving to cater more and more to the wants of the masses, until today, theater magnates are racing each other to see who can put on the most elaborate shows. Anaheim people are also anxious to see the best of silversheet entertainment, and with this idea in view, Managers Ingram and Swope have arranged for a program beginning today that is a regular "knockout." The feature of this bill is beautiful Alice Brady in "Dawn of the East." It is a wonderful picture, says the critics, and those who have been fortunate enough to witness it elsewhere. The cast is par-excellence, and the other added effects are splendid. On the same program several added attractions of more than ordinary interest are presented including Charles Desser, the noted boy virtuoso. This lad is making a tremendous name for himself, and will soon be a reigning favorite on the biggest circuits, it was freely predicted. The entire ensemble is superb, and everyone should see this program. MIGHTY CENTRE TEAM TROUNCES ARIZONA 38-0 IN RAIN SAN DIEGO, Dec. 27.—San Diego experienced a football "hangover" today. Pelting rain and a 38 to 0 score failed to dampen the ardor of gridiron fans who saw the game and plucky Arizona University eleven downed by the mighty Centre machine at the stadium yesterday afternoon. It is generally agreed that the score belies the relative strength of the two teams. Arizona, outweighed badly on the line and behind it, was unable to cope with the beef and brawn of Coach Moran's proteges in the sea of mud in which the game was played. They made a sterling fight, showed several flashes of high grave offense and fought to the last amid the cheers of the big crowd which was largely for the westerners. There has probably never been a game played in the west with such a one-sided score, with such an assortment of thrills from whistle to whistle. THE NEW Stop Paying Rent Parasites. There has probably never been a game played in the west with such a one sided score, with such an assortment of thrills from whistle to whistle. They were not all provided by Centre, either. Playing against Roberts, all-American end, Captain Wofford, of the Wildcats, exhibited a terrific game on the defense and offense as well. Outweighed 60 pounds he broke through time after time to down the runner behind. Slonaker, at water-back for Arizona was another star through his forward passing, punting and fiedl generalship. Clymer, Arizona, at center, broke up play after play from one end of the line to the other. For Centre the great Bo McMillan was easily the star. He proved a veritable whirlwind, twisting, dodging and squirming his way down the field for gain after gain. His passing with a wet ball was a marvel. Centre exhibited team work and interference of the highest calibre, practically every man on the team proving a star. While rain fell during the entire game, the crowd remained to the end, cheering the mud bespattered players and voting San Diego's annual east-west game a real football contest, in spite of the score. Man Run Down By Bus; May Die of Injuries Struck down by a motor bus near the city limits yesterday. Manuel Reyes, 40 years of age, of Fullerton, was perhaps fatally injured. At the Receiving Hospital in Los Angeles he was treated for a fracture of the skull and other injuries and then removed to the county hospital. Fire at Dillard, Okla. Makes 1000 Homeless ARDMORE, Okla., Dec. 27.—Fire yesterday wiped out the business section of the town of Dillard, located in the heart of the Hewitt oil field, causing damage to the extent of $100,000.
