The Loss Through
For Sale---
All or Part
of 20-acre Grove
and Beautiful Home---
Will Take Anaheim
Property in Exchange---
Here is a chance to get a real, honest grove at a real, honest price, as the owner, who has personally taken care of it for years, has a perfectly legitimate reason for making a change and fully realizes that only by asking the lowest possible price will he be able to dispose of the property within a reasonably short time.
Have us tell you more about this grove. Investigate it from every angle and we're sure you will want to talk "business." It is in bearing, is beautifully improved with strictly modern home, has own irrigation system and is located close-in on main, paved boulevard. And the price is right.

Buy Land Here Now and Build Home You Owe It to Yourself and Family
Start the new year RIGHT. Stop paying good money to the RENT-HOGS!
Be true to yourself. Be good to your family—your loved ones.
If you are akin to the rapidly growing class to which the charm of life in the country makes a strong, irresistible appeal—persons who have grown weaty of the rush, racket and chilly artificiality of the big, overgrown, crowded city—the there are highly desirable small tracts ranging in size from one and a quarter to five acres, just outside Anaheim and obtainable on exceptionally reasonable terms.
These tracts are set to growing orange trees and the possibilities of improvement and beautification are truly inspiring to HOME-LOVERS, who long to live in a rose-rambled bungalow nestling among the gorgeous flowers, stately palms, emerald green lawns and shrubbery; who rise to greet the glorious dawn and thrill before the matchless sunsets; whose hearts are attuned to the sweet singing of the birds; whose souls seek the incomparable beauty of California blue skies; whose vision gathers the grand contentment of the mountains, now crowned with a diadem of snow—lofty peaks standing in regal majesty in the distance—reigning over Anaheim and the rich Valencia Orange Empire.
If you love this kind of environment—the sublime beauty of nature on all sides, tranquility of mind, happiness of heart and perfect soul-satisfaction—then you ought to have a COUNTRY PLACE and you ought to go after it RIGHT NOW!
"OUR HOME!" Say it yourself.
"OUR HOME!" Hear your own wife repeating it.
"OUR HOME!" Listen to your children lisping it.
"OUR HOME!" There are no sweeter words in any language.
It does not matter whether it is a magnificent mansion or a eozy cottage. it is "OUR HOME;" no matter whether it cast $1,000,000 or one $1,000—it is still "OUR HOME;" our castle—and under its kindly shelter all the sorridness, all the grief, all the disappointments of the whole world may be shut out!
You owe this happiness, this comfort, satisfaction and pride of HOME-OWNERSHIP to yourself and what is more YOU owe it to YOUR WIFE and CHILDREN!
What your home IS, will have much influence upon the future of YOUR BOY or YOUR GIRL. So, train them to the idea of building and owning THEIR HOME. It is the fundamental principle upon which all the magnificent architecture of civilization rests—upon which society depends. The spirit of thrift engendered will greatly influence their future direction either toward success or failure. Own your own home, teach your children the splendid economy and the respect shown the citizen who OWNS HIS HOME!
And, in the last analysis, the sweetest, greatest and best thing that YOU could do would be to provide a HOME for your loved ones while YOU are here. Don't leave them to be persecuted, harassed and perhaps evicted by some flint-hearted landlord. Buy and build YOUR OWN HOME and DO IT NOW!
"California is noted for its wonderful scenery and beautiful state and national parks. Yosemite National Park, our largest and most scenic park, had more visitors this year than any other park in the United States. This, together with the fact that many people make their summer and winter homes here, causes our state to be widely known and settled by tourists and eastern people. Some idea of the proportion of the people who come to California to remain and the proportion who come here only for a visit can be gathered from this interesting information. Out of seventy-five people who were in a coach coming to California, thirty were coming on a visit and the remaining forty-five were coming to make their homes here.
The people of the East realize that real estate in California is the best investment and they are moving west to 'Our Little Empire' that Arthur Brisbane says will some day contain fifty millions of people."
DUCKWORTH PREDICTS RECORD BUILDING IN 1922
Elk Park Extension is still going strong despite the inflexency of the weather, which usually discourages inspection of home-sites.
W. E. Duckworth of the J. T. Lyon Realty Company today said, "The interest developed in Elk Park Extension augurs rapid settlement of this beautiful subdivision. Every indication points to a greatly increased business in all kinds of Anaheim property. Our sources of information tell us that building operations during 1922 will vastly exceed any previous year in the history of Anaheim. Eastern people are turning their eyes toward Southern California and Anaheim has been marked as a particularly desirable place to live and get the best out of life. We not only have a most ideal location, but the climate is wonderful. Although we are in an interurban town still you can reach the seashore in twenty-five minutes and then return."
ANAHEIM H. S. STUDENT WINS REAL ESTATE ESSAY PRIZE
Merle Simon of the Anaheim union high school won first prize in the California Real Estate magazine essay contest and will receive an award of $15, according to an announcement received by The Herald today. The subject of the essay is "Why California Real Estate Investment Is Best." This honor was won in competition with high schools from all over the state, including many in the larger cities.
The prize essay will be published in the January edition of the magazine of the California Real Estate Association and in many newspapers of the state. A letter has been received by the superintendent of the Anaheim high school thanking the students for the interest shown in the contest.
Second prize in the contest was won by William E. Gould, Pacific Grover high school. Third prize went to Ruth Kyle of Turlock union high school.
First Prize Essay
The essay written by Merle Simon follows:
"California real estate is steadily increasing in value, due to her increasing population. Homes and business buildings here are in great demand.
"California, with her mountains, beaches, good roads, with her beautiful scenery, and wonderful climate, each year attracts thousands of tourists, many of whom stay, increasing the population to such an extent that more and more homes are in demand here. The demand for business buildings naturally increases with the population, making both residence and business property a good and safe investment."
"California has many kinds of climate and soil. By growing different fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains, whichever may be the best adapted to the climate and soil of a certain section of the state, and with an abundance of water for irrigating purposes, California soil pays big returns on money invested."
"Real estate is always the best investment. Money invested in business is not always safe. Many business enterprises often prove to be failures with a total loss of the money invested."
Second Prize Essay
The subject of William E. Gould's essay is "California, the Golden State." This Pacific Grove high school student will receive a cash prize of $10. The essay follows:
"Mr. Settler, California welcomes you! California, the golden state, the garden spot of the continent. Our resources need your developing, our enterprises need your capital.
"Here on the sunny Pacific slope lie 155,652 square miles of the finest land in the world. Any plant that is useful to man finds an ideal home in California. Its land produces everything from tropical fruits to hardy plants of the coldest regions. The fertile lands of its valleys are the richest in the world.
"The climate is sublime. There is variety enough to suit every taste. California is the healthiest place on the globe. In this land of sunshine the land is kept producing the year around. Surely nature has lavished this region with the very best of her gifts."
"According to the last census there were only three and a half million people in this state. The need of our state is for more permanent residents. With a population of only twenty-two persons per square mile, it can be easily seen that there is plenty of room for a great many more people. California real estate offers the best opportunity for prosperity that can be given to any ambitious man. Such an investment pays best."
Third Prize Essay
Ruth Kyle won third prize with an essay on "Why Real Estate in California Is a Good Investment." Her essay follows:
"California, the land of sunshine and golden opportunities, where health and happiness reign supreme! Where else would one find a spot more like paradise?
Is real estate in California a good investment? Where could it be better? What other state furnishes such fertile soil, such an enormous water supply and a climate that makes possible the growth of two abundant crops every year? This variety of soil and climate enables California to produce any crop that can be raised anywhere in the United States. We have excellent highways, railways and harbors that make it possible for us to ship our commodities all over the world."
Aged San Diego Couple End Lives With Gas
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 27.—Apparently weary of life, Mr. and Mrs. William Ramm, both about 80 years old, committed suicide here yesterday by locking themselves in their room and turning on the gas. A neighbor found the bodies after he had discovered gas escaping through a keyhole.
Harry Followed Ressie For Two Years, Pinched
NEW YORK, Dec. 27.—Charged by Miss Bessie Black, 20 years old, a stenographer, with having followed her "all over the city for two years," Harry C. Anderson, 23, a typist, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in Toombs court. Anderson acknowledged that he had worried the girl, a pretty brunette of Jewish extraction.
Both the magistrate and patrolman said they did not believe Anderson was of the masher type, and they felt sorry for him. Sentence was suspended.
