Barber aged 60, does not want alimony from her husband, Milton C. Barber, she told Superior Judge Toland yesterday when she was granted a divorce. "I am able to care for myself," said Mrs. Barber, "and I do not want any alimony from him. I have property of my own." Their divorce action has been pending since May, 1917, at which time Mrs. Barber instituted action. She charged her husband with deserting her on January 11, 1916. They married September 30, 1915. December 6, 1919, he filed divorce proceedings giving Mrs. Barber deserted him on February 1, 1919. The plaintiff has resided in Los Angeles thirty-eight years. She resides at 1020 West Kensington road. Judge Toland allowed Mrs. Barber to resume Officer Loses Runaway Youth's Ticket Home LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21.—Charles Elder, a boy living in Marshalltown, Ia., yesterday had visions of a "prodigial son" sort of Christmas—fatted chickens, or turkeys; fat, juicy mince pies and other such holiday edibles. He ran away from home some time ago. His dreams went glimmering, however, later in the day when R. Murphy, county probation officer, lost the ticket, which had been paid for with money sent here by Elder's parents. The probation officer would like to recover the ticket, if it has been found. Mother Retains Child Pending Divorce Fight LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21.—Testimony introduced in Judge Toland's court to the effect that pretty Mrs. Hilma Cooper had attended gay parties and midnight frolics in Venice, temporarily ended a controversy between Mrs. Cooper and her husband, John Cooper, proprietor of a song shop, as to which one would have the custody of their child, Barbara, pending their contested divorce action. Attorney Griffith Jones represented Mrs. Cooper. A city mother was delegated to find a new home for the mother and daughter. In her cross-complaint suit, Mrs. Cooper, formerly a Russian dancer, accused her husband with associating with bootleggers and violating the liquor laws by bringing whisky into their home. SACRAMENTO, Dec. 21—The State Veterans' Welfare Board today officially received approximately 3000 applications from veterans for aid under the Farm and Home Purchase Ace. Robert Smith, secretary of the obard, said that thousands of applications have been delayed by the inability of county clerks to record service records as rapidly as they came in and that action on the applications will therefore be delayed. The First Application Makes Skin Cool and Comfortable If you are suffering from eczema or some other torturing, embarrassing skin trouble you may quickly be rid of it by using Mentho-Sulphur, declares a noted skin specialist. This sulphur preparation, because of its germ destroying properties, never fails to quickly subdue itching, even if fiery eczema. The first application makes the skin cool and comfortable. Rash and blotches are healed right up. Mentho-Sulphur is applied like any pleasant cold cream and is perfectly harmless. You can obtain a small jar from any good druggist. Advertisement SAGE TEA DANDY TO DARKEN HAIR It's Grandmother's Recipe to Bring Back Color and Lustre to Hair. You can turn gray, faded hair beautifully dark and lustrous almost overnight if you'll get a bottle of "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound" at any drug store. Millions of bottles of this old famous Sage Tea Recipe, improved by the addition of other ingredients, are sold annually, says a well-known druggist here, because it darkens the hair so naturally and evenly that no one can tell it has been applied. Those whose hair is turning gray or becoming faded have a surprise awaiting them, because after one or two applications the gray hair vanishes and your locks become luxuriantly dark and beautiful. This is the age of youth. Gray-haired, unattractive folks aren't wanted around, so get busy with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound to-night and you'll be delighted with your dark, handsome hair and your youthful appearance within a few days. This preparation is a toilet requisite and is not intended for the cure, mitigation or prevention of disease.
