Anaheim Pharmacy Eisenhauer & Bahrénburg 144 West Center St., Anaheim, Cal. Chos. H. Ince presents "Mother O'Mine" A story of the world and its people, "Mother O' Mine," Thomas H. Ince's latest drama for the Associated Producers, has been announced as the feature of the California Theater program commencing tomorrow. The forthcoming production, a melodrama of metropolitan life, is enacted by an all-star cast consisting of Lloyd Hughes, Joseph Kilgour, Betty Blythe, Betty Ross Clark and Claire McDowell. Frer Niblo, who has directed rany successful screen productions, the most recent of which was Douglas Fairbanks' "The Mark of Zorro," has directed the Ince feature, which should constitute a guarantee of its technical existence. The plot briefly deals with the involved situation arising from the desires of Robert Sheldon, the only son of his mother, to seek the opportunities that the city has to offer over his native small town. His mother gives him a letter of introduction to a prominent wizard of finance, who is, unknown to the boy his own father who has deserted his family years before under the drunken supposition that his wife's infidelity has made the boy the son of another. The boy is given a position in the financier's office, and unknowingly becomes the cat's paw of some doubtful business transactions. Discovering his situation, he accuses the financier who, enraged because the boy has prevented the consummation of a big deal, viciously attacks his mother's name. A fight results in which the wizard is accidentally killed by his own revolver. The only witness to the affray, the slain man's mistress, perjures herself on the witness stand to secure the boy's conviction and sentence to the electric chair. From that point onward the mother moves into prominence, her unselfish sacrifice and determination constituting the basis of many suspensive situations. From both a production and photographic standpoint, "Mother O' Religion Among Soldiers Is Basis for His Sermon Dr. J. A. Geissinger spoke at the White Temple last night on the "Religion of the Majority." Text, John 14:1. "Believe also in me." In part he said: "We are to think tonight of the religion of the majority of Americans. We have the facts for this. For in addition to our observations and the findings of many observers we have the studies that were made of the draft men here and in England. The war called forth many studies of the soldiers right at the front. Donald Hankey, Tiplady, Gypsey Smith, President Henry Churchill King, Bishop McConnell, and others of like standing, made first hand observations of the men at the front. MacLean's 'God and the Soldier'; Gray's 'As Tommy Sees Us,' and Pym's 'Papers from Picardy,' and other books of the same type tell us the story of his religious life. In addition to that, chaplains and army officials made a census of the men. "So our facts are abundant. They are also very interesting. Here is the first: There are very few infidels or atheists. Not two per cent of the men but had some church preference. "Fully 95 per cent of the men expressed some kind of religious faith. "It is estimtaed, however, that of this number a comparatively small proportion had what could be called a vital faith. "The case may be summarized thus: The average man has an idea of God, more or less vague, as a good purpose back of all life and all things. This idea of God is pretty much what Jesus made it as far as it is defined at all. "Jesus is looked up as the supreme life and is always regarded with respect and almost always with reverence. The man looks upon Him as an example, especially. He is the ideal of the average man. "Every man, or at least almost every man expects to go on beyond death. The soldier refuses to take a dark view of death. It is for him 'Going West.' West' means the great adoration theology but it gets at the root of the matter after all and shows that the teachings of the church and the Sunday school and home have not been altogether in vain. "Moreover, the morality of the average man shows the influence of Christianity. The average citizen as seen in the uniform of the soldier admires courage, generosity, straight forwardness, loyalty, devotion to home and mother. Here plainly is a wholesome vitality. "It is true that the men showed many vices, such as gambling, drinking, obscenity and sexual immorality. And these are conditions to be remedied. "What we need to do, all of us is to keep in mind that the dynamic of the higher mortality is faith in Jesus Christ as the Lord and Master of life. It is devotion to him that has transformed the lives of men and we need to lift religion to a more vital level. Christianity is the one religion now in the world that seems to have the power to transform human life and every man and woman should have more than a nominal relation to it. If we believe in God, Christ and immortality at all we should believe in them intensely." TAG DAY TO RAISE WELFARE WORK FUND Permission has been given to a representative of the Volunteers of America to hold a Tag Day in this city on Saturday, December 17, as has been done in Riverside, Santa Ana and other cities of this vicinity. The affair will be in charge of a local committee with headquarters at the Chamber of Commerce. The Volunteers of America was founded nearly thirty years ago by Ballington and Maud Booth. The work in California is incorporated and endorsed by its local chamber of commerce. One phase of its activities in this state nor covered by any other organization is spiritual work among prisoners in the state penal institutions and for this home missionary labor Rev. Charles Alexander is regularly employed. Another commendable phase of the prison department is looking after the children of prisoners often left destitute when the father is taken away to serve his sentence. This is not done for the sake of the man but to prevent the need of the children following in the footsteps of the father. The work of the Volunteers of America is supported by voluntary Fashions for Americans THE woman who owns a half worn Hudson seal or other flat coat may use the unworn parts to good purpose in trimming a fabric coat and constructing a cap and possibly a hat to match for her little girl. The camera work, by Henry Sharp embodies many puzzling and remarkable effects. The drama was adapted to the screen by C. Gardner Sullivan, from "The Octopus," by Charles Belmont Davis, and was directed under the personal supervision of Thomas H. Ince. THE WOMAN WHO OWNS A HAIR WORN Hudson seal or other flat fur coat may use the unworn parts to good purpose in trimming a fabric coat and constructing a cap and possibly a hat to match for her little girl. The sketch indicates one method of combining fur with fabric in the development of a coat for a child of four to six years. This model was made of a bright red velvet with deep band, collar, and cuffs of Hudson seal. The black and red combination was particularly effective. The little tam carried a touch of red in the ornament placed at one side. Squirrel mole, coney or practically any of the other furs usually employed for coats could be utilized in the trimming of a fabric coat for a child, even pony skin in black or natural color being adaptable to the purpose. Wool jersey cloth continues to be the favorite fabric for utility frocks for small girls, and never have high shades been so much the vogue. Of course the dark and practical colors such as brown navy, and dark red hold their own, but the vivid tones are more generally approved. Very bright red, orange, vivid blue, and brilliant green are very popular, and certainly they are very charming for wear on cold, gray winter days. One smart little frock of bright red jersey cloth recently seen was cut on straight lines, with a round neck and sloping shoulders, and finished with small patch pockets. The neck, edge of the frock, and the pockets were finished with a button-hole stitch done in heavy wool in a color matching the frock, and a smart little self-fabric hat accompanied the costume. Mother Fur and Fabric Combination Used in a Smart Coat and Cap for a Little Girl. Goose figures in black taffeta were appliqued on to the crown of the hat, which was tied about with black taffeta ribbon. SANTA ANA CAPTURES TITLE; SIX PLAYERS ON HONOR TEAM Santa Ana high school today is crowing over the victory in the game with San Diego at Bovard Field, Los Angeles, Saturday, when the Orange County boys trounced the wearers of the blue and white by the top-heavy margin of 34 to 3 and, incidentally, took home the Southern California high school football title. Except for a few minutes early in the game, when the southerners plugged up the field and scored a field goal, the Santa Ana warriors had their opponents on the run throughout the battle. Bart Cock, Santa Ana full back, scored four touchdowns during the game. Eny Wilcox, quarterback, added the balance to the score by making one touchdown and kicking four goals. San Diego's only score was made by Hall who drop-kicked from the 25-yard line. Santa Ana has six places on the All-Southern California team selected at the close of Saturday's game; Los Angeles high has two; San Diego one; Manual Arts one, and Hollywood one.
