TRUCKEE MAN HELD ON MURDER CHARGE NEVADA CITY, Nov. 28. — Gus Branch, Truckee pool hall proprietor, was placed in the county jail here last night to await preliminary hearing on the charge of having murdered Annie Boyle, whose body recently was disinterred at Ogden, Utah. Three Men Identified As St. Louis Bandits ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 28. — Three of nine men arrested late last night in Granite City, Ill., were identified, police assert, as the bandits who held up the offices of the St. Louis Refining Company, in the business district yesterday. Diamonds and other jewelry valued at $6500 were stolen. Three Die, Eighty Hurt In Large Theater Fire NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 28. — At least three persons lost their lives here last night when the Rialto theater, a motion picture house, was destroyed by fire. More than four score received hospital treatment. It is believed some may die. It was reported two bodies were found in the ruins and another was at the hospital. For two hours, while flames enveloped the theater, it was feared the death list would be heavy. Ambulances carried scores to the hospitals. Many were in the hotel. Hundreds had gone home, cut or bruised. Daily Mail To Quit Using Wells' Articles LONDON, Nov. 28. — The Daily Mail announces it will cease publication of H. G. Wells' articles on the Washington conference. The action is taken, the paper says, because of Mr. Wells' attitude towards France. Lines Want Increased Pay HOUSTON, Texas, Nov. 28. — Decision to ask for art increase in wages equal to the reduction in pay granted by the railway labor board July 1 has been made by the clerks on the Southern Pacific lines and a request for a conference on the matter will be made to road officials on or before December 1. it is announced by Ralph J. King, general chairman of the union. Ungrateful Bandits Rob Car Tire Dealer PASADENA, Nov. 28. — H. L. Slayden, president of the auto supply company which bears his name at 237 West Colorado street, stopped in his place of business just after nightfall to look around. Two strangers knocked on the window. They were in hard luck, they said, and would appreciate it if he'd overlook his Sunday closing habit and sell them a coupe of tires. He let them in. When they denied they took with them $100 that had been in the cash register, Slavden didn't interfere because the business end of a revolver kept pointing his way. Student Shoots Self In Sacramento Street SACRAMENTO, Nov. 28. — Robert J. Riley, 30, believed to be a student at a San Francisco school of mechanical engineering, died at the emergency hospital from a pistol wound through the head, said by the police to have been inflicted by himself in a crowded downtown district yesterday. Two shots from an old-fashioned Derringer were fired, the first missing, but the second taking effect in the right temple. A number of pedestrians witnessed the shooting. Viviani Denies Briand Slurred Italian Army WASHINGTON, Nov. 28.—Rene Viviani, who succeeded Premier Briand as chief of the French delegation to the armaments conference, last night took official cognizance of reports of anti-French riots in Rome, Naples, Turin and other Italian cities. On behalf of the French delegation, M. Viviani formally denied that Premier Briand had made a slurring reference to the Italian army at one of the sessions of a conference committee, as charged in the Italian press. This alleged remark was declared to have incited the Italians against the French. Woman Electrocuted While in Bath Tub About 9 o'clock Saturday night Mrs. Alice E. Frackelton, 53, went into the bathroom of her home at 905 Bronson street, to take a bath. A few minutes later she was found unconscious by her children and husband. Physicians were summoned and a pulmotor used, but without avail. Death had been instantaneous. Apparently Mrs. Frackelton had tried to turn on an electric light in the bathroom, while standing in the tub. Electrocution had resulted, instantaneously. BOWLER SETS NEW MIDWEST RECORD DES MOINES, Nov. 28.—A new midwest bowling record was established Saturday night in the five-man event at the midwest tournament. The Kaad's Pritzi Scheffs of Chicago shot a score of 2967, breaking the record of 2936 made by the St. Francis Hotel team of St. Paul at Omaha in 1919. Cornhuskers Invited To Play at Bay City LINCOLN, Neb., Nov. 28.—The Nebraska football team, Athletic Director Luehring announced today, has received an invitation to play a game at San Francisco January 2. The invitation did not designate the opposing team. Director Luehring said Missouri Valley conference rules against post-season games will probably prevent acceptance. Deaths and Funerals Mary J. Russell, aged 67 years, mother of D. C. Russell, one of the proprietors of the Anaheim Barber Shop, died at her home on the North Garden Grove road Sunday. Services will be held at the McAuley funeral parlors of Fullerton Tuesday at 10 o'clock. Interment will be at the Loma Vista cemetery. Mrs. Russell leaves a family. The Men's Gift Store SOON! Kustiner's THE SIGN OF GOOD CLOTHES ANAHEIM News Notes of the Oil Fields SANTA FE SPRINGS At the present time there is no well in Southern California, for its depth, producing the quantity and quality of oil that the A, O, Co's, Butterworth is producing. At 4682 this well is producing 297 bbls. of oil running 34.5 gravity. Butterworth No. 2 is building rig. The Amalgamated added two new properties, the Guardio and Tscoppe to its holdings and will develop them in the near future. The Chansler-Canfield Midway has a rig up and is about ready to start drilling. The well is located across from the Union's Bell and will be known as Santa Fe Springs No. 1. The Central Oil Company could not resist the excitement under way at Santa Fe Springs and is starting a well on its 6 acre tank farm. The rig is going up now. The Nevada-Ventura Oil Company struck hard drilling at 700 and at a 1000 feet is not out of the hard sand and boulders. The Scientific Oil Company had a streak of luck. The bits lost in the hole at 1450 has been pushed aside and drilling is now going ahead at 1490. The Standard Oil Company jumped in at Santa Fe Springs two weeks ago and is going strong. Drilling on the Brownrigg-Kellar is now close to 1500. Los Angeles Trust and Savings No. 1 is built. Sanchez No. 1 is built. Pacific Clay Pipe No. 1 is built. The boilers have been set for Wolfskill No. 1 and a cation made on the South Whittier Community. The Union Oil's Bell No. 1 continues to perform wonders. This great well now unquestionably the greatest thing in the western petroleum world is flowing 2600 barrels of 32 gravity oil daily. The flow nipple was increased from % to % and the production almost doubled. On the Bell property the Union has No. 2, 3 and 4 building rig. Rigging up is about completed on the Flood-Alexander No. 1 is building rig, Sanchez 1 is building rig, and the boilers are being set for Farwell No. 1. On the Meyer lease No. 5 is close to completion that has made Richfield famous for hard digging. Rotating at 1755 the second Syndicate well is in the hard conglomerate. The Wonder Company Ltd. is building a rig and getting ready to start drilling on No. 4. No. 3 at 3077 standside with a fishing job. No. 2 set pipe and cemented at 4382. At 4502 this well showed considerable oil and should make a nice well. The group of wells put down by the General Petroleum in the Yorba Linda section of the Richfield district have proved small producers. Brown No. 1 at 3296 is making 65 barrels. Davis No. 1 at 3247 is making only 5 barrels. The best well is Group 4-1 producing 95 bbls. at 3116. The Hugo lease one of the smaller properties has turned out to be the most valuable. Hugo No. 1 is doing 335 barrels and No. 2 is making close to 800 barrels. Five wells on the Thompson lease are averaging 200 bbls. BREA-FULLERTON FIELD The Brea Canyon Oil Company will come back up to 2900 feet at No. 32 drilled to 4200 feet and test out some showings. Put on the beam at 4200 feet this well produced 4 barrels. The Federal Drilling Company is making good time for the Dolke-Thomas Oil Syndicate. Drilling is now at 1800 feet in hard sandy bue shale. To date nothing in the way of a showing has been observed. The Columbia Oil Producing Company's No. 34 is now drilling at 4045 and is in sandy shale. Columbia No. 39 is drilling in the oil sand at 2300 feet. On the Menchego lease the Columbia has abandoned both No. 1 and No. 2. No. 1 stopped drilling at 3250 and No. 2 went to almost 4300 and found no oil. The Columbia's Orange No. 7 is making about a 100 barrels of oil and five million cubic feet of gas. The Fullerton Oil Company completed No. 4 at 3213 and the new well is doing about 125 barrels. No. 6 was completed at 3333 and went on production a 50 barrel well. Work is being resumed on Fullerton Oil Company's No. 14 now rigging up to drill out the cement at 2156 with cable tools. Two new wells have been located, Nos. 17 and 18. BIXBY HILLS The Bixby Ranch Syndicate stopped drilling some time ago at 4675 and is The Union Oil's Bell No. 1 continues to perform wonders. Right at Los Nietos the Petroleum Midway is building a rig for what will be known as Community No. 1. PUENTE HILLS Running a core barrel at 3800 feet the Chino-Corona United struck showings of nice light oil and the deepening of the test well is going forward under favorable conditions. Water trouble at Bardeen No. 1 has caused the consideration of pulling the 6 inch and is going deeper and to re-cement. Drilled to 2260 this well has shown strong evidence of a producer but has been held up on account of water. RICHFIELD The Amalgamated Oil Company's Thompson No. 11 finished at 3052 when put on production failed to make a 490 barrel well. The daily production if this new well is 185 barrels. The O. O. Co.'s deepest well Breen No. 2 set a string of 10 inch casing at 3096 and cemented. Kammerer No. 1 a recent new well set 607 feet of 15½ and cemented. Page 1-A is 1200 ft. in the hard sand. R. D. Clark's Hugo Wetzell No. 1 is drilling in the sandy brown shale at 4200 and is showing a little gas. Production is looked for at around 4300. W. M. Keck now recognized as one of the most successful contract drillers has taken the contract to drill Merchants Petroleum No. 3. The rig is up and Keck expects to spud in in a few days. Keck's most recent work at Richfield is the Wonder Company Ltd.'s No. 1. Drilled to 4200 feet this well has been flowing better than a 1000 bbls. daily for 8 months. Merchants Petroleum No. 2 is drilling at 2550 in hard sand. The deal for the Placentia Pacific has not been put thru as yet. Two of the largest concerns in the Petroleum business today are "dickering for the holding and something definite will probably be known before the end of the week. The Petroleum Midway's deep test well Yarnell No. 9 is now on a production test. The well is making 25 gravity oil, the quantity is averaging just about 100 barrels daily. Carter No. 1 finished at 4308 todate has made no production, and is being tested out by bailing. No. 2 Isaacs has settled down to a 165 barrel well. On the Krug case No. 5 brought in last week. BIXBY HILLS The Bixby Ranch Syndicate stopped drilling some time ago at 4675 and is attempting to shut off water by cementing through the perforations at 4675. The National Exploration Company's Olinda No. 1 is now drilling at 4000 feet. The formation is showing blue shale and no signs of oil. Chino No. 1 at 1800 is in hard shale and no showings. GARDEN GROVE The Standard Oil Company's deep test well at Garden Grove is now making hole at close to 4100 feet. Despite the fact that there are persistent rumors of a big well the drilling is going quietly on and no official announcements of any big showings have ever been made. HAWTHORNE-REDONDO The Kitselman Oil Company is having a lot of trouble shutting off bottom water at Hicks No. 3. Drilled to 4002 there has to date been no success in getting a shut off at 3920. Kitselman claims a showing of oil at this point and will make further cementings until the job is a success. Playa Del Rey No. 1 is standing temporarily suspended at 1751. Lausinger No. 2 started drilling a few days ago and now shows 2700 feet in the hard sand. REDONDO The Chanser Canfield Midway has puoooo sauo suuuup ap puu pappads well Dominguez No. 1. Redrilling and deepening of Del Ano No. 1 is making good progress. The hole cleaned out down to bottom is showing a lot of gas and oil. Deepening resumes at 3035. The General Petroleum Corporation is now one of the Redondo operators. The G.P. secured a lease on the Petit fills property and is building a rig for the initial well. Drilling at better than 4600 feet the Union Oil Company's Sommers No. 1 at Redondo is in brown shale and showing a little gas. Frances 1 is ready to drill out the cement and go into the oil sands at 2665. the largest concerns in the Petroleum business today are "dickering for the holding and something definite will probably be known before the end of the week. On the Richfield Consolidated property No. 4 came in 180 barrel well and is doing 19 gravity oil. Consolidated No. 5 is drilling at 2200. The deep test well on the Richfield-Yorba resumed drilling last week and is now at 4765 in sandy brown shale. The Placentia Oil Company succeeded in getting a string of 8 inch down to 3008 feet and cemented at that point. Drilling ahead will start before the end of the week. Drilling on Bradford No. 2 was carried to 3920 and 8 inch set at 3908. No. 3 Bradford drilled to 4770 drilled down to a 5 barre well and is now being ceaned out. Bradford No. 4 has stood idle for some time but is now going ahead with the rotary at 3025. Bradford 6 shows 1200 feet of hole. Bradford Bros. No. 4 is a rig. Richfield No. 3 shows 2400 feet and drilling in hard sand. The Richfield Giant is trying for a shut off at 4212. Success is shutting off water at this point means an early producer for the Richfield Giant. The Richfield-Yorba Oil Company drilling and sidetracking at 3285 is just 75 feet off bottom. It is believed that new hole will be in the making early next week. 200 feet more of hol is expected to mak th Richfield-Yorba big well. The Ridge Oil Company decided not to carry a string of 6 inch further than 4415 and at that point stopped drilling and set the pipe. No showing other than the oil colors and gas that has been running for a couple hundred feet prompted the setting of the pipe. Drilling will be resumed with 4 inch. The Standard Oil Company has decided to redrill and deepen Kellog No. 2. This well got down to a very small production, and will be deepened to get an increase. Drilling on Kraemer 2-16 is now at 4000 feet in hard sand. Kraemer 2-17 is drilling at 3985 on sandy brown shale. The Wents Syndicate No. 2 is in the Monday, November 28, 1921. Still unsatisfied with the perforance of No. 5 the Whitley Oil Company is getting ready to go deeper. Completed at 2565 the well has been making close to 200 barrels. No., 6 is drilling at 3145 in shale. The Southern California Oil Company's Sanderson No. 1 is now drilling at 2700 feet in blue shale. Au oil sand is expected soon.
