Most of the major league clubs have already selected the southern port in which they will get their 1923 candidates ready. The world champion Giants are to return to San Antonio and they probably will work their way north with the White Sox. The Yanks are looking for a place in Texas and probably will decide on Houston. The American league champions will play a pre-season series with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox. ANNOUNCEMENTS A SMALL RAFTMENT means Joaquin. The former record, made by Miss Mable Cody, was 11,000 feet. In relating her experience, Miss Fairgrave said: "For once I had a real thrill. It took us over an hour to climb to the desired altitude and during the last 5000 feet when the ship climbed very slowly, it became extremely cold. By the time we were high enough for the jump, my hands were so cold I could scarcely move them. At first I hesitated to go out on the wing where my parachute was fastened, but after rubbing my hands briskly and moving around for a few moments I began to feel a little warmer." "I usually fasten my chute on the landing gear, or axle, of the ship, but I am too short to get down on the landing gear of a Curtiss Oriole. As this was the only available ship which would climb that high I had to bind the bag to the second wing-strut instead. Now I am glad the parachute calling each other "little pal," baseball has nothing to talk about now but spring training plans. Louis Cardinals and the Brooklyn Robins. The Cincinnati Reds are going to Mineral Springs, the Indians to Dallas anil and Pirates and the Red Sox will return to Hot Springs, Ty Cobb's Tigers will work out again in San Antonio. From the absence of talk about managerial changes, it seems that all of the club owners will stick to their last season's pilots. Despite all talk to the contrary, it is almost certain that Miller Huggins can manage his champion Yanks again if he cares to, and the usual talk about John McGraw retiring from the management of the Giants is not being taken seriously. Johnny Evers probably will return to the National league champions as a coach, although there has been some talk that he would get another managerial job if George M. Cohan is successful in buying a franchise. There was much talk at the end of last season that Tris Speaker would give up baseball, but Cleveland fans are expecting the Indian chief to be back in his war paint in the spring."
