Black Favored Among Women
Conservation, the spirit that is paramount today throughout the United States in all lines of business has deviated into the realm of Dame Fashion in so far as color is concerned. Consequently, we have the black—magic black of old, deep dark somber hued black, jet black, always conservative as well as distinctive, which is the predominating shade in winter styles for women.
Dresses in the local stores tend toward the long, loose, simple, attractive lines with trimming of contrasting colors, or for the real smart dresser, the entire black gown which completes the charm of the well dressed woman.
The reason for the return of the popular black cannot be decided, but home say it is an outgrowth of the war. During the sad days of the war, the young and petite French women, whose husbands and lovers had died in the trenches, dressed in deep mourning. In spite of their dresses they looked charming in the somber used attire, and the designers, flocking in that country, always ready for suggestions, designated that black should become the favored color of the time. There are other reasons too. At the close of the war, countries became conservative in dress as well as in business. That spirit spread over the whole United States and the fashion mode dictators set the悲情able black, wonderful in charm and utility, for the color scheme for the coming season. Designers decided that this quiet shade would fit in with the spirit of the times.
Others hold, that the color is merely a spoke in the wheel of color fashion and that it was formerly popular and is so again. But the real reason,
Ellis Rhodes has been a director of several of the large choirs of thirteenth and has for the last month been the director of the Santa Ana Christian church choir. He also is a voice instructor at Redlands University and has studios in Anaheim and Santa Ana. He has studied with the foremost voice teachers of the world.
In the evening Mrs. J. M. Hitchcock will sing "Arise, Shine, for the Light is Come," Mrs. Hitchcock possesses a voice of pleasing quality and it will be a pleasure to hear him.

Others hold, that the color is merely a spoke in the wheel of color fashion and that it was formerly popular and is so again. But the real reason, according to the dictators, is that the辛酸 tea gown or the street dress, the evening frock or the afternoon tirtle in black is becoming to girls as well as the young women and to the middle aged as well as the elderly woman. By many, black is named "The color of youth."
Black is always appropriate for any occasion. It is in good taste for the most elaborate affair among the social sets for simple occasions. Black is keeping with the trend of fashion at any time and anywhere.
A HABRA GIRL
RECOMES BRIDE
The wedding of Miss Anna Healton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Nealton, to Charles Barnett of East Whittier with the Rev. George A. Nashler, pastor of the Friends church of East Whittier, officiating, was beautiful in its simplicity. Miss Healton has spent almost all of her life here and in East Whittier. She was a student of the Whittier schools and college, and has many friends to wish her will in her new venture.
The gown worn by the bride was white georgette crepe and white satin, with a silver corsage bouquet. The groom's gift was a beautiful string of pearls. A simple collation was served to the thirty friends and relatives present. A trip by motor will be taken to the northern part of the state. After Decemebr 1 Mr. and Mrs. Barnett will be at home in the childhood home of the bride on the county line.

Nobody in Paris recognized Mary Pickford because her husband wore a mustache. Think of that! In fact, "Doug's" camouflage worked so well he finally had to put Mary's picture in the papers.
TONSILITIS
So-called is a complaint in which the tonsils are swollen and inflamed. Where the trouble progresses white patches will form from improper kidney action.
Quinsy is also a form of tonsil disorder. It affects one tonsil more seriously than the other, forming an abscess that will break in a week or ten days.
Adenoids, or soft tumors found in the nasal passages, while located in a different situation of membrane than tonsillitis and quinsy, have the same cause. All are due to pressure against the nerves by displaced bones of the spine, which interferes with the passage of vital force from the brain, causing too much heat in the parts and they become sore and inflamed.
Chiropractors are successful in restoring the victims of these complaints to full health without drugs or operations.
