The captain arrested the proprietor

LIFTY PRIZE STEERS OFF TO ENGLAND
AS PIONEERS OF EXPORT BEEF TRADE
AT HOME
MONARCH OF THE PASTURE
MONTON, ALTA.—Alberta's best steers, including prizes among at the Chicago, Guelph and London shows, will be shipped to England by the Provincial Department of Agriculture as Western Canada's answer to the British challenge that Canadian beef is in our English beef.
British newspapers," said Dun-Marshall, minister of agriculture in announcing plans for the overseas shipment in the Alberta statute, "have recently suggested that Britain can not get high-beef from Canada. We propose to show the English the kind cattle Western Canada produces. When we have sold our steers in England, we shall in the money in a select hand-station farm. We want the British market, which is the world's best market, for our beef and I believe we shall get it when Englishmen see the quality of cattle we raise on our Canadian prairies."
The day of big range herds is nearly over. Western Canada's cattle are largely in the hands of small farmers. The areas of heaviest settlement are along the transcontinental lines of the Canadian National Railways and these new homebuilders practice diversified farming. Vast tracts are still unsettled and farms are to be had at $20 and $30 an acre. These lands yield 30 to 40 bushels of wheat to the acre. Many farms have been paid for in a single crop.
