MRS. JEWELL HOSTESS TO WEDNESDAY CLUB
Mrs. W. J. Jewell was hostess yesterday to the Wednesday Whist Club at the home of Mrs. W. P. Quarton.
The rooms were decorated with carvations and ferns and the luncheon service at the close of the afternoon was carried out in the same color scheme.
Cards were played and Mrs. W. P. Quarton scored high, Mrs. Max Neblung second and Mrs. Minnie Palmer third.
The members present were Mesdames W. P. Quarton, R. Seale, John Johnston, Fred Mickle, Tom Detrick, J. L. Abbott of Fullerton, L. D. Witherall, H. Backs, Max Neblung, H. Stock, Alice Booth and C. Martin.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs J. L. Abbott of Fullerton.

GRADUATION BALL
OF FULLERTON NURSES
The members of the Anaheim Johnston-Wickett clinic motored to Fullerton last night where they attended the commencement program at the Fullerton Club of the Fullerton graduating class of nurses of which there were six.
After diplomas were awarded friends and members of the hospital staff enjoyed dancing. Refreshments were served and the hall was decorated for the occasion with a profusion.
SHOPLIFTING IS CHARGE AGAINST SANTA ANA COUPLE
Emma and Antonia Nagaha were arrested in Leipsic's Department Store in Santa Ana Wednesday, charged with shoplifting. At their arraignment this afternoon, they pleaded guilty, and trial was set for June 7.
When the two were arrested in Leipsic's, it was found that their shopping bags were filled with dry goods with Rankin store price marks.
Herbert Rankin, proprietor of the latter store, was notified and swore out a complaint against them after identifying the goods. A shirt that is said to have been taken from the Golden Rule store was also found in the bags.

The line between a hobo and a poet is sometimes finely drawn. Constable Jesse Elliott arrested James Henry Patterson on a vagrancy charge recently and Justice J. B. Cox let him go this morning.
Patterson declared that he would rather sleep than work and didn't particularly care whether he worked or not. He stated that he had $17 in his pocket. He says that he always sleeps under the trees in the open and would rather wander about the open broke than be a millionaire inside.
He was released with the advice to "go back to the green fields and winding brooks."
RECKLESS DRIVING CHARGE CONTINUED
The trial of Mrs. J. H. Zadeck on a charge of reckless driving was continued till a future date in the justice court yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Zadeck was given the continuance because she said that she had not been notified of the impending trial and had not had a chance to confer with her attorneys.
W. G. Righter, complaining witness, and several other witnesses who were subpoenaed in the case, were present and ready to go ahead with the trial.
Righter claims that Mrs. Zadeck drove her car on the wrong side of the road when the road was obstructed, and caused considerable damage to the car driven by Righter.
The desire to have the best navy in the world doesn't cost as much as the desire to have the best car in the community.

EDUCATIONAL FILM
AT PLACENTIA FRIDAY
An instructive and educational picture will be shown for the school boys and girls and their mothers at the Placentia grammar school Friday afternoon at 2:30. The title of the film, which was produced by the University of California for the benefit of the schools, is "How Life Began."
Mrs. Elizabeth McManus of the state board of health will be the speaker of the afternoon. This program is under the auspices of the Placentia Community Council and there will be no charge.
LOIS THIMBLE CLUB
HAVE QUILTING DAY
The Lois Thimble Club of the Rebekah lodge held an all day meeting today for the purpose of sewing quilts for the I. O. O. F. home.
A large number of friends and members of the club were present and a great amount of work was accomplished.
At noon the members who were not on the quilting work prepared a delicious dinner which was enjoyed by the workers.

STARTED FOR HOME
LANDED IN CO., JAIL
Ladistado Vallabos started to Mexico today but landed in the county jail. With his ticket purchased and money drawn from the bank, he was brought into the justice court in Santa Ana this morning on a complaint brought by his wife charging non-support of his three minor children.
Pleading not guilty to the charge, his preliminary examination was set for June 15. Unable to secure the $1000 bail, he is now in the county jail.
BURY SOLDIER AT SWEETHEART'S SIDE
When Walter G. Dykeman voluntarily enlisted in the Coast Artillery corps March 14, 1918, his sweetheart, Miss Ipsen of Placentia, died.
Prior to sailing for service overseas he made a request that if he should die in France his body be buried at Fullerton beside that of Miss Ipsen.
Dykeman died at the hospital in the province of Haute-Marne, France, February 8, 1919.
His body, one of a consignment of 8000 that reached New York several days ago, will reach Fullerton June 7, according to advices there today.

FRIDAY NIGHT
"The Dress Rehearsal," a most amusing and interesting operetta, will be given at the high school Friday night, June 3, by the musical department of the school with assistance from the orchestra and Glee Club.
The parts have been carefully directed by Miss Higgins and Miss Owens. It will be one of the best performances of the season. The curtain rises at 8 o'clock.
CLASS ELECTIONS OF STUDENT BODY ON IN HIGH SCHOOL
The high school student body is all excited today. Primary elections of officers for the ensuing year were held this noon. Final elections will be held the end of this week and at that time certain campaign managers will know whether their man won.
The leading office of the organization is president for which two candidates, Bill Cook and Ted Slems, are running. The yell leader, which is a position that all boys dream of, has more competition. Bob Lewis, Al Clayes and Stewart Gates are all in the run for the leader of the "yells" at football games debates and all other activities.

GOLDEN STATE HAS PUBLICITY PROOF ANAHEIM SHOW
Through the enterprise of the officials of the Golden State National Bank, residents of Anaheim and vicinity are enabled to see to some extent at least, the great volume of publicity given this city by the Valencia Orange Show.
In the display window of the Golden State, which is always graced with some interesting exhibit, there appears yards and yards of newspaper clippings referring in their entirety to the Valencia Orange show that closed here Wednesday of last week.
The display is centered with a magnificent panoramic picture of the view of the show tent from the main entrance. The photograph was taken by the Betzold studio and is indeed a beautiful vision of Anaheim's great show.

The printers arranged last night to entertain R. T. Porte of Salt City in Santa Ana next Wednesday, when a banquet will be given in his honor at the Rossmore hotel in that city.
The printers will take their ladies to this banquet, and following, after the printers get down to business, the ladies will be entertained at a theatre party.
Mr. Porte is a price list specialist and with the printers of the county, will discuss prices for commercial printing in this territory and compile a list to guide them in giving estimates and charging.
EX-CONVICT TAKEN AFTER LONG SEARCH
SACRAMENTG, June 2.—After a five months’ search for John Bellini, ex-convict, known as “Jimmy the Wop,” federal agents have him in custody today, charged with evading the draft. Mrs. Mae Figueroa of Sacramento was later arrested charged with conspiracy in the case.
Bellini, federal authorities said while in Watsonville, forced Mrs. Figueroa at the point of a gun to sign his exemption claim as his dependent wife. Mrs. Figueroa told officials he was intimidated into signing the papers.
Several years ago Bellini escaped from San Quentin and was recaptured after a battle at Stockton during which he was shot in the shoulder.
