SAC Student Honored with Other Women
Miss Kyla Lyon, honor student and campus leader at Santa Ana College, has been awarded "Woman of the Year" honors as a highlight of the recognition of 40 campus women for their service to the college.
Miss Lyon, the daughter of a former SAC philosophy professor, is vice president of the Associated Students, chairman of the Interclub Council, former president of the Associated Women Students, cochairman of the successful Bill of Rights observance last fall, and winner of highest academic honors.
Another ten women were honored for exceptional service at an evening program. They were Mary Miles, Maxine Harris, Kay Carstensen, Luana Schmutte, Sharon La Bonte, Noel Rife, Delores Russell, Judy Moore, Judy W. Lewis and Mary Sullivan of Anaheim.
Others feted to round out the 40 were Sue Badger and Joan Dowling, Garden Grove; Janki Kokx and Carol Smith, Orange-Tustin, and from Santa Ana, Jean Anderson, Janice Bate, Karen Bessey, Linda Bright, Violet Craemer, Judy Dombrewski, Judy Hamilton, Beth Harrison, Pat Henryson, Diana Hertz, Della Kahn, Susan Larsen, Judy D. Lewis, Nancy McNeil, Judy Morse, Diane Narasaki, Barbara Newman, Dottie Ogle Nix, Judy Norton, Rosalind Peterson, Sharon Quinn, Susan Reed, Nancy Stebbins, Joan Tammaro and Marta Villanea.
Beta Sigma Phi Installs Officers
New officers of Chi Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi were installed in ceremonies at a meeting held in the home of Mrs. Robert A. Wiles, 2309 Arlington Ave., Anaheim.
Officers for the coming year are: Mrs. William Hall, president; Mrs. Henry E. Lestmann, vice-president; Mrs. Ralph Upson, recording secretary; Mrs. Roy Otey, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Harry Le Orville, treasurer; Mrs. John Ragan, extension officer;
Mrs. Thearman McKenney, civil defense.
A special feature of the evening was the presentation of a gift to Mrs. Dale Means in appreciation of her advisory services.
The 68th Annual Convention of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, to be held June 1-5 inclusive, at Los Angeles promises to be a star-studded affair from beginning to close. International, as well as national speakers, will feature the afternoon and evening sessions, with morning sessions devoted to the business of the Federation.
Preceding the official opening of the convention at the Shrine Auditorium on Tuesday morning, California clubwomen will present an inspiring and memorable "California Night," banquet and program, at the Palladium in Hollywood Monday evening. June first.
A salute to Cecilia B. DeMille, great film maker and great American, will be presented by Monaca Jones, Los Angeles, motion picture chairman, CFWC. The program will be built around the life work of this pioneer producer director, a man honored throughout the world, and before his death California's most outstanding citizen.

Movie Stars, Guests
Benton, and long time close personal friend of DeMille, will make the nominee address. Henry Wilcoxon, associate producer to DeMille on the Ten Commandments" will be master of ceremonies, with film director Charlton Heston telling the intimate story behind his memorable portrayal of Moses under DeMille's guidance.
Other stars participating are Anne Baxter, Yul Brynner, Yvonne Carlo, Edward G. Robinson, Deborah Paget, Sir Cedric Hardocke, Nina Foch, Martha Scott, Vincent Price, Judith Anderson and Olive Deering.

YWCA Home For May 2
The 19th annual hometour, sponsored by Orange County YWCA, ended for Saturday, May 3rd. Members derived from this event used to supplement for youth activities.

Cotillion Sponsors Hold Meet
Sponsors of the West Anaheim Cotillion, Senior group, for high school age young people, met at the home of the president, Mrs. Joseph Clark, 10102 S. Dale, to discuss plans for the last two dances of the current season.
At the next dance, May 21 at the Walt Disney School, the instructress, Mrs. Edith Pine, and Fred Shaw will present (as a special feature) a medley of the major social dances. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Canary, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stayton, and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Cowan are patrons and patronesses at this dance.
The traditional "Cherry Blossom" Ball on June 11 will be the grand finale of the cotillion this year. At the May dance several cotillion members will be selected to assist on the committee for the ball. The sponsors, who include Messrs. and Mmes. James Allen, Kent Campbell, Joseph Clark, William Elmore, Dayton Gilleland, Robert E. Huff, John Johnson, Louis Moll, Earl Sampson, William Holgate will be patrons and patronesses on the occasion of the ball.

Rainbows To Install Sunday
Miss Pat Sheffner will be installed as worthy advisor at the sixth public installation of Anaheim Assembly No. 182, Order of Rainbow for Girls, to be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m., in the Masonic Temple, 104 N. Emily.
Other high officers to be seated will be, Laurie Hogkvist, worthy associate advisor, Karin Carmi-chael, charity, and Joanna Hanskens, hope.
Installing officers for the afternoon ceremony will include Deana Wear, grand hope to the State of California, Order of Rainbow for Girls; retiring worthy advisor Elaine Turney, Becky Sheffner (eldest sister to the newly elected worthy advisor), Peggy Seale and Anne Langston. All are past worthy advisors of Anaheim.
The worthy advisor-elect is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Sheffner of 2411 Greenbrier. She is 16 years old, and is a student at Western High School.

CFWC Will Feature Awards at Convention
The California Federation of Women's Clubs, junior membership, in co-sponsorship with the Sears Roebuck Foundation, will present their annual awards in the "Build A Better Community" contest when they convene for a three-day state convention to be held May 14-16 at the Hotel Mark Hopkins in San Francisco.
The Sears Roebuck Foundation will present $4,000 worth of awards to the winning clubs who best meet the needs of their community in the fields of any one of all of the following classifications: health, youth, education and culture, fine arts, conservation and beautification, safety, government, and civil defense. Money received is used to further these community service projects.
Judges for this year's contest include: Don Porter, television star on the App Sothern Show; Pete Pitchess, Sheriff of Los Angeles County; and Dr. Arthur Coons, president of Occidental College in Los Angeles.
Mrs. George Quesenbery of Monrovia, state junior "Build-A-Better Community" chairman, has announced that 229 clubs have entered the contest, a 100 per cent participation. Of that number, 90 per cent of the clubs are working with youth in their communities and with the mentally retarded children. They have made donations of money, equipment and volunteer service hours.
The Sears Roebuck Foundation is particularly pleased with the 15 new clubs who will enter a special category for awards to promote future clubwork, according to Stewart Pettigrew, vice-president of Sears Roebuck Foundation, Pacific Coast Area.
Among those planning to attend the BABC awards banquet are Pettigrew, vice-president of Sears Roebuck Foundation, Pacific Coast Area; J. F. Francoeur, Mid-California group manager of Sears Roebuck Company; E. F. Weldon, manager of the Haywood Sears Roebuck store; W. C. Ridener, manager of the Sears store in Oakland, and managers of the two San Francisco Sears Roebuck stores, G. L. Parnham, and D. F. Golsch.
Mei Venter, radio commentator and columnist in the San Francisco area will also be a guest for the banquet.

Dr. Ed Russell, head of the Orange County Health Department, was guest speaker at the second general meeting of the Anaheim Memorial Hospital Guild, Inc., held in the Ebell Clubhouse.
Members were greeted by Mrs. George Fowler, president; and Mrs. Thomas Short, program chairman. Mrs. Henry Plou, host-it-tail-clubman-in-the-middle-three-thirds-of-a-cent-attended-the-contest.

Dr. Ed Russell, head of the Orange County Health Department, was guest speaker at the second general meeting of the Anaheim Memorial Hospital Guild, Inc., held in the Ebell Clubhouse.
Members were greeted by Mrs. George Fowler, president; and Mrs. Thomas Short, program chairman. Mrs. Henry Plou, hospitality chairman, invited them to a pink decorated tea table where Mrs. Paul Baker and Mrs. William Guzzardo poured.
Russell discussed the various antibiotics and it's different effect on people. He explained in detail the reasons why the board of health is limiting the number of visitors allowed per patient in the hospitals of Orange County and that this rule has to stand indefinitely.
Mrs. Paul Baker, ways and means chairman, gave a report on the success of the play that the Guild sponsored and was given by the Tustin Players. There were 700 people attending.
Mrs. Edith Fordtran, remembrance fund chairman, explained in detail the purpose of her committee, and Mrs. A. H. Harle,
volunteer chairman, introduced her cochairman, Mrs. Robert Driscoll. The new evening visitor register chairman, Mrs. Jack Kirk, brought the members up to date on committee functions.
Mrs. Albert Burton, Junior counselor, gave a brief resume on the activities of the Junior Guild. Also introduced was Mrs. Thadore Pearson as the new amenities chairman.

YWCA Home, Garden Tour Set For May 23 in Fullerton Area
The 19th annual home and garden tour, sponsored by the North Orange County YWCA, is scheduled for Saturday, May 23. Proceeds derived from this affair will be used to supplement the budget for youth activities.
This year a comprehensive tour has been planned to offer various types of homes, gardens, patios, pools, and unusual landscaping.
The nine homes and Las Lomas Verdes, Inc., community pool are in the Fullerton area, and may be seen from 1 to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be served from 2 to 5 p.m./at the community pool.

Donation is reasonable for the tour, booklets which contain maps showing location of homes and community pool as well a detailed description of same. The booklets contain tickets for entrance to all attractions, and entitles the bearer to refreshments.

The Ladies Guild of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior will sponsor a mother and daughter banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, to be held at the parish hall, 1521 W. Orangethorpe.

BETROTHED — Mr. and Mrs. Carl Karcher of 706 N. Clementine, Anaheim, announce the engagement of their daughter Anne Marie to Gary Wiles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Wiles of Fullerton. Miss Karcher, a graduate of Marywood Girls' High School, is a student at the University of San Diego.
