Alleged Girl Forgery
Cohort to Face Court
By Orange County News Service
Attractive Cora Lee Myers, a 19-year-old lass who gave police officers the address of "all over" will appear in court May 22 for her probation hearing and sentencing.
The shapely defendant is accused of passing a series of bogus checks in Orange County and in several other counties in the company of Joe Quiroz, currently in custody in Riverside.
Public defender Richard Sullivan Friday requested a delay of two weeks because of further investigation still being done on the case.
The green-eyed woman and Quiroz, 33, were arrested in Riverside by lawmen. The two would reportedly move from one place to another, Quiroz preparing the checks and his pretty companion cashing them.
Quiroz reportedly operated a dummy firm known as "Major Advertising" and used this name in passing the fake checks.
Dear Abby...
Be A Little More Liberal, Mom!
by Abigail Van Buren
DEAR ABBY: My daughter is being married soon and we have made plans for the wedding and reception. Now here is my great We are having a buffet supper with beer and punch. The boy's parents insist we serve hard liquor because they say their friends do not drink beer or punch. They are willing to pay for it. We are not throwing social party. We are entertaining guests who come to wish the couple well. Don't you think we are within our rights to do it way?
BRIDE'S MOTHER: It is your party, and technically you may as you please. The groom's parents have no right to INSIST on liquor (even if they pay for it), but if you want to start off with the best possible relationship between the two families—an ounce of vention is worth a gallon of punch.
DEAR ABBY: I get so mad at some of your answers. I've been married nearly thirty years and talk to a lot of men every day and think I know what a man wants from a woman besides her house duties such as scrubbing, washing and cooking. If a man wants potatoes mashed and his toast buttered, that is a personal thing his wife should do it just to please him. If a woman wants to do housework she doesn't have to marry a man. She can hire herself. Are you married? If so, ask your husband if I am not right?
MAD AT YOU
DEAR MAD: I asked my husband and he says you are absolutely right! (You men sure do stick together.)
DEAR ABBY: I am 15 and my boyfriend is 16. We have been living together for a year and four months. Last year we went to Frosh Prom. It was formal and my boyfriend didn't bring me a sage. I felt hurt but let it go by. He is not poor, he just didn't better. This year I wonder if I should hint around and tell him color of my formal? My mother says she thinks she'll call up mother and play safe. My father says to quit worrying about it he'll buy me one. What is the best solution?
NO CORSA
DEAR NO: After going together a year and four months I should know him well enough to say, "Look, Jack, I don't need expensive corsage—a single gardenia will do."
DEAR ABBY: How can I make my mother understand that doesn't have to live with my father for my sake? She has told me many times that the only reason she is staying with my father because of me and the minute I get married she will leave him. I not a baby, Abby, I am 15 years old. I can never remember mother and father speaking nice to each other. They yell and f

Prices and Wages Not Rising Faster Than Other Nations In Recent Years
By SYLVIA PORTER
(This is the third in a series on the American Assembly.)
You're hearing it on all sides these days and the talk is frightening, the implications grave:
"America is pricing itself out of the world's markets . . . Wages and prices have been rising so much faster in this country than abroad that more and more of our industries just can't compete with foreign producers . . . Our wage-price spiral explains why our exports of goods are plunging, our imports of foreign goods are soaring; putting it bluntly, we're being undersold . . . Jobs are in danger, paychecks at stake . . ."
Surely, you've heard the dire warnings. President Eisenhower himself has worried loud about foreign competition; the President's Economic Council has just ordered a broad study of the subject; businessmen are repeatedly blaming unions for demanding wage hikes that are killing their markets and union leaders are repeatedly blaming businessmen for posting price hikes that are killing their jobs.
But is it true that our record on price-wage increases in recent years is the reason our industries are finding it tougher to compete with foreign producers at home and abroad?
It is not true. Prices and wages in our country have NOT BEEN RISING FASTER than in most other industrial nations in recent years. The widespread impression that other countries have done better than we have on limiting the price-wage spiral is not backed by the facts.
For the statistical evidence to prove this, I am indebted to two original research papers presented

price-wage spiral is not backed by

For the statistical evidence to

original research papers presented to
the just-concluded 15th "American assembly" on price-wage relationships by Dr. Clark Kerr,
president of the University of California, and Dr. Lloyd Reynolds.
Sterling professor of economics at
Yale University. Specifically:
Between 1948 and 1957 wholesale prices in the United States climbed about 13 per cent.
In this same period wholesale prices in the United Kingdom rose 55 per cent; in Norway, 71 per cent; in Sweden, 53 per cent; in the Netherlands, 43 per cent; in France, 66 per cent; in Australia, 102 per cent.
Between 1948 and 1957 consumer prices — indicating the cost of living — in the United States increased 17 per cent.
In this same period the consumer price index in most other industrial countries rose between 20 and 50 per cent. Only West Germany had a better record than ours — with a price rise of 14 per cent.
For Wage comparisons Dr. Kerr offers an index of hourly earnings in manufacturing which uses 1950 as the base year of 100.
On this index wages in our country are now around 141. In West Germany, the wage index is 166; in the United Kingdom, 165; in Norway, 169; in France, 202. "Without wage restraint" and with none of the "stronger policies" of some other lands, says Kerr, "the United States has demonstrated a comparatively high degree of wage stability...".
Our industries are finding it
