Bulletin Tuesday, May 5, 1939 Dog-Tags by GEORGE COMROE PR 4-4850 Early one evening several of the neighborhood children called me out in the street, where I found a lost Shetland Sheepdog. I coaxed him to me, put him in my back yard, and gave him fresh water and a big dinner. Less than 10 minutes later I was on the phone, telling his owner how to get to my house. How was it done so fast? The dog is licensed with the City of Anaheim, and was wearing his license and rabies tags. I called Officer Eggleston, he checked the license number, and gave me the owner's name and address. Let me tell you about Officer "Bud" Eggleston. He most certainly is not the old-time comic dog-catcher — he's a kind and intelligent gentleman, very efficient and with a sincere love and understanding of animals. In eight years with the Anaheim Police Department he had made a lot of friends. He and Officer Kenneth Dempster cover almost 28 square miles each day, bringing help and protection to you and your dog. It takes all kinds — and going to the other extreme we have Francis McGuire, a Bellflower kennel owner. Arrested by the Downey police, he is presently facing charges of grand theft. In tracking down the theft of a pooch valued at $1500, Downey police found McGuire's kennel held 41 unidentified pets. Wednesday, May 6, 1939 Research... Here's a good tip — scratch your name and phone number on the back of your dog's license tag; keep the license tag on the dog's collar; and, if your dog is stolen or lost, call the police immediately.
