D-4—Anaheim (Col.) Bulletin Wednesday, May 8, 1959 News Notes from the Lighter Side United Press International NOT MEANT THAT WAY YONKERS, N.Y. (UPI) — The hold-up men who escaped with nearly $50,000 from the First National Bank Monday carried the money away in brightly colored shopping bags carrying the bank's name and the legend: "A gift to you, to celebrate our 25th year in Yonkers." DIG THIS CRAZY BIRD NEW YORK (UPI)—William G. Conway, the Bronx Zoo's curator of birds, reported today a very confused robin is building nine nests on as many identical steps on the fire escape outside his window. Conway said no eggs have been laid because every time the bird sits on one nest she looks up and sees another, and flies away for material to finish it. CRAMPS HER STYLE WHITTON, England (UPI) — Mrs. Vera Cristison said the thief who grabbed her $4,200 would never have gotten away if she hadn't been wearing high heeled shoes and a tight skirt. Mrs. Cristison, 37, who gave up the chase after 200 yards, was once a star hurdles racer. LONG TIME LEARNING LONDON (UPI)—Reginald Seymour, fined $11.20 for driving with a learner's permit without the company of an authorized driver, disclosed that he'd been doing just that, on the same learner's permit, since 1938. PENNIES MOUNT UP KENOSHA, Wis. (UPI) — Seven couples who've kept a neighborhood three-cent poker game going for five years reported today they've been banking the pot each week. There's now enough, said William Marlatt, to take everyone to Bermuda for 10 days—and that is what they're doing with it. LUNCH IS EXPENSIVE CHICAGO (UPI)—A ladies hospital benefit committee lunched on the 20th floor of the Harris Trust and Savings Bank Wednesday on a menu which read: "Bouillon common stock; lambs chops a la finance, potatoes negotiable and currency lettuce salad." Police said the ladies were robbed of three mink stoles, valued at $2,800, during lunch. TAILOR'S AD DALLAS, Tex. (UPI)—A tailor shop here flaunts a sign reading: "As you rip so shall we sew." TV SOLUTION MANCHESTER, England (UPI)—Detectives watched with deep absorption as a documentary program on crime was televised Friday night. When it was over, they arrested an extra in connection with a theft in Glasgow. DALLAS, Tex. (UPI)—A tailor shop here flaunts a sign reading: "As you rip so shall we sew." SOME CHANGES NEEDED LONDON (UPI)—The British government's Gas Board acknowledged today that its new special training school at Mere is completely outfitted with electrical appliances—and hasn't a gas outlet on the premises. SHORT STAY IN OFFICE BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (UPI)—Joe Payer, elected constable of the town of Komenski recently by a vote of 25 to 4, will be leaving shortly. Sheriff Edward Prusa said he has orders to deliver Payer to the Waupun State Prison to serve a sentence for alding in a gas station robbery. COULD'VE BEEN WORSE MIAMI (UPI)—Waitress Bonny Fleet said the bandit who stole $770 from the restaurant in which she works shoved her into a freezer locker when he departed. "But he gave me a shirt and a pair of workman's pants to keep warm," she said. She was released 15 minutes later, unfrozen. ED BAKER Associate Anheim Finance Co. 112 S.
