Dear Abby...
Some People Are Never Satisfied
by Abigail Van Buren
DEAR ABBY: My husband buys me a plant every Easter. I have told him many times that I like a bouquet of cut flowers but he says a plant is better because he can plant it outside later. I say if that's the reason he buys a plant he isn't buying it for ME, he is buying it for HIMSELF. It's not that I don't care for plants. Abby, but if he was really thinking of me he would buy what I wanted, not what he wanted. What do you think?
LIKES FLOWERS
DEAR LIKES: Don't look a gift flower in the roots. Be satisfied that he remembers you with something lovely for Easter.
DEAR ABBY: I am very much in love with a boy who goes to a boarding school. He says he likes to get letters from me, but I shouldn't expect to get any letters from him because he hates to write. I have written him every day since last September, and he has never written to me once. When he comes home for week ends he calls me up for a date when he feels like it, and I go, like a fool. I know he has been home for week ends and hasn't called me. Before he went away he said we would be married in nine years and he gave me his sweater. I am 15 and so is he. Should I break the engagement?
GLORIA
DEAR GLORIA: You'll need more than a sweater to take the chill off this romance. He is not ready to make any long-term promises, and you aren't ready to accept any. Go out with the gang, and don't regard yourself as anybody's private property. Quit writing, and don't be so available when he calls.
DEAR ABBY: A close friend of mine is planning her wedding. Last week her doctor told her she was pregnant. Tomorrow she plans to order her invitations and procure her dress. My friend's mother has not been informed of her daughter's condition. This girl is selfish and ridiculous to go ahead with this affair. Her poor mother will simply die of embarrassment when she learns the truth. How does one explain to a 20-year-old girl that a simple, quiet wedding is in order and soon? Kindly publish your reply.
CONCERNED
DEAR CONCERNED: One explains it to her exactly as you have explained it to me. The decision is hers, right or wrong.

DEAR ABBY: We have been told by our children (a son 24 and a daughter 20) that it is quite old-fashioned for a young man to ask the father of a young woman for "her hand." They say that this is not being done any more. Are we out of step or not? OLD-FASHIONED
DEAR OLD: There are still many young men who have a "chat" with the father of the young lady to assure him that he is able to provide for a wife, but nowadays when a fellow asks for a young lady's "hand" he usually has both feet in the door.
CONFIDENTIAL TO DISAPPOINTED DAD: If your son wants to be a mechanic, let him be a mechanic. Not everyone reaches the top by "degrees."

Hearing Set In Ogle Bribe Case
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Preliminary hearing is scheduled here tomorrow for Nate Gorin of Catalina Island on a charge of attempting to extort money from County Counsel Joel Ogle.
The hearing has been continued twice before, once after Gorin and Ogle had testified in Municipal Court.
Gorin was arrested in January at the Santa Ana Elks Club after District Attorney investigators secretly listened to a conversation between Gorin and Ogle inside the club. A microphone concealed upon Ogle was broadcasting the discussion to a parked automobile in front of the building.
The Catalina real estate developer is accused of demanding $2,500 from Ogle in repayment of money which Gorin claims he gave four years ago to oll promoter Roy Maggart. Gorin has testified he
Congestion in Courts Soon to Be Relieved
SACRAMENTO (UPI) — The California Youth Authority has announced that by the end of this year it will have eliminated the problem of long waiting lists that often keep court commitments in county jails for weeks.
The congestion of facilities is being relieved by accelerated intake and rehabilitation programs for the juvenile court cases.
Surplus, Confiscated Cars Bring In Money
SACRAMENTO (UPI) — The state Finance Department reports that 66 surplus and confiscated cars brought $20,095 to the state during March.
This was $14,385 for 44 surplus vehicles and $5,710 for 22 confiscated cars.

Gorin was arrested in January at the Santa Ana Elks Club after District Attorney investigators secretly listened to a conversation between Gorin and Ogle inside the club. A microphone concealed upon Ogle was broadcasting the discussion to a parked automobile in front of the building.
The Catalina real estate developer is accused of demanding $2,500 from Ogle in repayment of money which Gorin claims he gave four years ago to oil promoter Roy Maggart. Gorin has testified he paid the money to Maggart in order to induce Ogle to advise Gorin how to bid upon the lease of county dock property at Newport Beach.
Gorin has also testified that he received no preferential treatment, that the dock property was not leased, and that he wants his money back, from Maggart or Ogle.
Ted Enoch Jr., Los Angeles auto dealer, testified that he had joined Gorin in the leasing attempt, and that he had put up part of the $2,500.
When Ogle met Gorin at the Elk's Club, he had with him $300 in marked money which had been supplied to him by the District Attorney.
Ogle claims he gave this currency to Gorin as a "downpayment" upon the $2,500. Gorin denies this.
The $300 in marked money was found tucked in a drain pipe outside the Elks Club, near where Gorin was standing after he had been arrested outside the building.
