Swim practice has been resumed each Saturday at the club, which is located on N. Brookhurst with Mrs. Bob Murrell and Bob Brooke representatives for the conference aiding in the workouts for the children. Selection of the swim team for the club will be made later, it was stated.
To meet the costs for the team, parents of the club are sponsoring a dancing party on May 9, the proceeds to go toward the purchase of swim suits and entry fees.
Two women’s volleyball teams are functioning at the club. They entered in the Orange County Women’s League. Captains of the volleyball program are Mrs. Rich Robison, Mrs. Ralph Doyle and Mrs. Jim Jones.
Men and women of the club also organized to bowl in a mixed league which had its innovation on April 20. Mrs. Robert Davies is in charge of this activity.
For persons who prefer more sedentary sports, there are games of bridge, and chess arranged at the poolside of the club.
Planning stages are the new and exciting improvements to the club premises. These include extension of building, cementing the volleyball court, storage building, a fireplace, water slide and shuffle board courts.
Edward Everett Horton Back in State for New Play
Edward Everett Horton has lived in every state of the Union except three. One, of course, is Kaka. The other two, obviously Wyoming and North Dakota. He is now invading California for fourth time in the comedy thrill—"Not in the Book," under the influence of Gilbert Miller, Henry Kek and Randolph Hale. Sharpe the marquee with him at the Theatre is Reginald Owen. Edward Everett Horton was in Brooklyn and tried to follow his father's footsteps as a visualist on the old New York bald. He took a course at Cobla University, but left it midway for a job as chorus boy in newlyweds and their Baby,” a nightful but undistinguished musical comedy which also included other hoofer named Wallace Hery.
His first acting assignment was Louis Mann in, "A Man Good Still" and "Elevating Husband," in which he also doubled stage manager.
He went to Hollywood and organized his own stock company which flourished for ten years. His leading ladies were Florence Eldridge and Mary Newcomb. Nights he played theatre and in the daytime he dabbled with movies. Let it be noted that in those pre-TV days, each bill ran for ten weeks. His major pictures were, "Gay Divorcee" with Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers, "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" and the memorable "Front Page." In between picture assignments, he would become nervous, so he would return to the theatre. His greatest triumph was, "Springtime for Henry" which has been played wherever there are footlights. It is every actor's ambition to play "Hamlet." However, his desire is to play the lead role in the modern version of that classic, Arthur Miller's "Death of A Salesman." Let it be noted, too, that the president of the National Edward Everett Horton Fan Clubs is his mother, who has just passed her 99th birthday.
