AT CAPITOL HILL — Mrs. Robert J. Hitt, president of the Orange County Federation of Republican Women, was shown the sights of Capitol Hill by Congressman James B. Utt of the 28th District, on her recent visit to the nation’s capital, Mrs. Hitt was in Washington, D.C. attending the seventh annual Republican Women’s National Convention as representative of the Orange County organization. Amerigo MORNING WORSHIP Topic: "ON THE AIR" 'SELLING YOURSELF' IS Anaheim FJC Business Day Honors; Alpha Marlys Stewart, Donna Jean Bernbrook, both of Anaheim, and Grace Nagasawa of Whittier, were honored as top business education students Wednesday at the Fullerton Junior College Business Education Day. More than 400 students attended. Miss Stewart won two awards, the Bank of America award presented to the outstanding student in secretarial and clerical studies, and one of two awards given to the top accounting majors of the college. Mrs. Bernbrook captured the other accounting award. Miss Nagasawa was the winner of the outstanding secretarial award, given annually by the Executive Secretaries of Orange county. The award was presented by Mrs. Marle Grace, president. The Bank of America award was presented by Harrison Beamer, bank official, and the others by Alva Straw, PJC’s business education division chairman. Highlighting the morning program was a talk by Clifford Haskell, vice-president of Alpha Beta Foods, who spoke on the theme topic for the day, “Selling Yourself in Business.” Panels Held Four panel discussion groups were featured on the program. PRAYER SERVICE 7:30 TOP 10 PERCENT Twenty Orange County Junior College and High School students have placed in the top 10 percent of the State's outstanding students and have been awarded scholarships by the State Scholarship Commission, according to Senator John A. Murdy, Jr., of Newport Beach. "We can all be justly proud of the significant achievements of these outstanding young men and women; their success in statewide scholastic competition with more than 8000 top ranking students is a credit, not only to them, but to their teachers and their parents." Senator Murdy said today. Each scholarship is to be used for payment of tuition and fees to a maximum of $600 a year at the institution attended by the award winner in the school year 1959-1960. A total of 735 students have been selected statewide. Held since its inception, at breakfast time, this meeting, open to men members residing in the area surrounding convention city as well as to convention delegates, is scheduled for a time more convenient to the non-delegates. Student leaders were Maxine Meyers and Angie Posito. Serving on the accounting panel were John James, chief accountant at Beckman Instruments; Fred Gibson, accountant of Fulton and Gibson; and John Dees, former student. The panel was led by FJC students Mrs. Donna Bernbrook, John Kenefick, Wilbur Scott, and Ronald Ricklef. This year majors in business administration and general business combined for a panel. Business-men members were Howard Lusk, lighting consultant with the Southern California Edison Company; Albert Launer, attorney; and Gordon Garnett, personnel director of Alpha Beta markets. Student leaders were Richard Silliman and Richard Wagner. General Office Panel was composed of Miss Judy Miller, Kimberly-Clarke; Mrs. Isabell Kay, Pacific Telephone and Telegraph; and N. A. Lehman, Northrop Aircraft. Student leaders were Marcia Hamilton and JoAnn Piegel. Go to Los Angeles After the discussions the students and faculty and their high school guests boarded buses for the Southern California Business Machines Show in Los Angeles, returning at 3 p.m. Special guests for the affair were groups of top seniors from neighboring high schools, who are majoring in business education and businessmen from Orange County. Tour or five such seniors from each school were honored as guests for their high academic performances in high school. The day’s activity got under way at 7:45 a.m. with a breakfast meeting in the college cafeteria. Opening meeting hour was called to order by Al Newman. A college quartet composed of Paul Goebel, Bernie Sloop, Jim Schamp, and Frank Thomas, presented musical selections. After breakfast, Dr. H. Lynn Sheller, FJC director, welcomed the group, and Straw presented the Business Day awards. Haskell’s talk followed. A brief fashion show by the students of Mrs. Mary Chapman’s class closed this portion of the meeting. John Dufour, OCC business education instructor, has been selected to edit the news letter of the California Association of Distributive Education. Dufour was selected for the duty in acknowledgement of his leadership capabilities. The Kingfisher Oklahoma County annual Picnic will be held at the City Park at Montebello Sunday at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is a basket lunch picnic. Anaheim Presbyterian Art Association will elect new officers at the meeting on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Pattie Brown, of Fullerton president of the Association requests that members bring their painting equipment as a regular class will be held right after the short business meeting. Evelyn Hamilton Keith, local artist, has been honored as the second artist to have a display of her landscape oil paintings on exhibit at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Whittier. Using phones in the Bank of America East Whittier and Downtown branches, and the Bank of Whittier, 35 alumni will do the calling, while an equal number of alumnae will write memos to be mailed that evening to each person contacted by phone.
