Ceremonies Mark Construction of New Manufacturing Facility at Altec
Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new manufacturing facility of Ling Electronics, Inc. were held yesterday at the Anaheim plant of the Altec Companies, newly acquired Ling subsidiary.
Manning a golden shovel were Chairman James J. Ling and George L. Carrington, Sr., Vice-Chairman of Ling Electronics, Inc.
Present were Anaheim city officials, Mayor A. J. Schutte; City Manager, Keith Murdoch; City Councilmen Rex Coons, Glenn Fry and Charles A. Pearson; administrative heads of Ling and Altec, and representatives of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce.
Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, represented by President Clyde W. Cromer, and Manager George Strachan, sponsored the groundbreaking and a brunch at the Gourmet Restaurant in Anaheim. At the brunch, Cromer presented a plaque commemorating the event to Ling.
The new manufacturing plant of 45,000 square feet, costing in excess of $500,000 will substantially increase production facilities.
Modification of Altec buildings will be undertaken soon to accommodate combined administrative, engineering and manufacturing personnel of both companies.
The Austin Company of Los Angeles will handle both design and construction of the new plant.

‘Artists in Action’
Slated at County Fair
“Artists in Action” will be one of the features of the Fine Arts Department during the Orange County Fair, July 14 to 17. It was announced today by Mrs. Helen Hafer, supervisor of the department.
Any amateur painter, sculptor, craft or mosaic worker, interested in doing exhibition work during the fair should contact Mrs. Hafer, 1037 W. Chapman, Orange, KEllog 8-2904.
Entries are still being accepted for the Fair’s Art Show—there is total space for some 175 paintings—from amateur artists (those who have not received more than $250 from the sale of their paintings in one year).
Entry blanks for Show exhibitors may be obtained by writing the Orange County Fair office, 20391 Newport Blvd., Costa Mesa, Calif.
Fullerton Man’s Truck Damaged in BP Incident
BUENA PARK — A Fullerton resident reported to police yesterday that someone had heavily damaged the interior of his truck left parked in Buena Park, this week, police said.
Leroy Boyd, 1104 East Wilshire, Fullerton, reported to officers that vandals had broken the shifting lever, twisted off the rear-view mirror, broke out the glass on the dash panel and had apparently kicked dents in the dash, police reported.
The truck, according to Boyd, had been left parked across from 7851 Whitaker Ave., Wednesday. When Boyd returned to his truck he discovered the vandalism.
Estimated loss and damage was $100.
OPEN HOUSE — On display at Anaheim High, next Wednesday, during annual Open House, will be these driver-training cars, well labeled and equipped with dual controls and safety belts. Many students have been taught to drive in these cars, among the safest on Anaheim streets.
Administrative, Director Undergoes Change In S
Anticipated Increase in Student Attendance Discussed by Board
Moving forward to meet next school year's anticipated heavy student load in present schools and those under construction, the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees last night started procedure for the changeover of administrative and directorate personnel.
Approved was the proposed teaching staff program for two psychologists in the district, a qualified purchasing agent, and another administrative assistant, the program under this directorate to be varied.
Presented by Superintendent Paul Cook, the board took under advisement the plan for change over in coordination of curriculum to director of curriculum under which two curriculum assistants would function. This would affect certain departments.
The proposals were discussed, the first three approved, in order that the personnel could be on the staff budget for the ensuing year.
Approval was granted Anaheim High School Principal Frank Kellogg to accept the office of president of the Council of the California Association of Secondary School Administrators. May 22 and 23 will be the dates for the annual meeting of the CASSA, the sessions to be held at Fresno.
Outline of Public School Week, April 27 through April 30, open house programs at the six schools within the district was presented by the superintendent.
Monday, 7:30 to 9 p.m. is the date and hours for the annual observance at Trident Junior High; 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Orangeview Junior High; April 28, Fremont Junior High School, 7 to 9 p.m.; Brookhurst Junior High School (dinner) 5 to 8 p.m. with open house 7 to 9 p.m.
Open house at Anaheim High School will be at the gymnasium starting at 7 p.m. on April 29. Western High School is planning a dinner hour from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 30 with open house set for 6 to 9 p.m.
Public Schools Week is open to any person who may wish to attend with the trustees putting the emphasis on parent attendance.

Transportation for Junior, Senior High Schools Studied by Trustees
Close study of the number of students to be transported to school, and starting and closing time for transportation buses, along with required number of buses, came in for careful study last night, by the Anaheim Union High School Board of Trustees.
Approximate transportation limits beyond one and one-half and two miles for students to junior and senior high schools was approved with the administration requested to prepare maps delineating the limits for scheduling bus stops. It was advised that six additional buses would be needed for the ensuing year. Action will be taken at a later meeting.
Drivotrainer program at Western High School where today approximately 100 students are under the program, and additional driveotrainer needed at Anaheim High school was presented by Chet Shirk, principal at Western.
After thorough analysis of the program by Shirk, the board approved the leasing of 17 more drivotrainers, one for AHS and 16 at Western.
Approved also was the employment of two summer school principals and teaching staff, the salary to be determined later.
Presenting the screening plan for the vacancies of girls' vice principal at Anaheim High School, two principals for junior high schools and two vice principals for the junior high schools, Superintendent Paul Cook got the approval of the board for the committee selectivity, the action including an expert in this field from outside the district.
Military leave of absence was granted to Theron R. Jackman, music teacher at Western High for June 14-28. Jackman is a member of the Engineering Unit Training Center, U. S. Army Reserve.
Board members were reminded that Mrs. Georgina Hardy, president of the Los Angeles City Board of Education will speak on the subject of "What we may expect of our teachers," when the Orange
Grove, BP Motorists Involved in Collision
GARDEN GROVE — Automobiles driven by Johnnie Lamance, 65, 7811 Western Ave., Buena Park, and by John Phillips, 36, 8051 Imperial Ave., Garden Grove, collided at 3 p.m., Thursday on Katella Ave., at Gilbert St.
The report of the California Highway Patrol indicated that Lamance eastbound on Katella, was making a left turn, when he was in the collision with the westbound car driven by Phillips.
Lamance and his passenger, Carol Van Winkle, 37, Lakewood, sustained minor injuries.
Contributing Charge To Be Heard In Court
SANTA ANA (OCNS)—The Rev. Robert F. Campbell, 56, of Silverado Canyon, today was bound over to the superior court here on charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors.
Santa Ana - Orange Municipal Judge Howard Cameron heard two juvenile boys testify of immoral acts allegedly instigated by Campbell at a Silverado Canyon boys camp, where he has served as counselor for years.
Campbell is scheduled to be arraigned in superior court at 9:30 a.m. May 8. He is free on bail.

Stanton Officer's Auto Target Of Hit and Run
Today Stanton Patrolman George Boudreau is investigating his own hit-and-run accident.
Yesterday while Mrs. Boudreau was shopping at Carter's Market someone backed into the Boudreau's 1959 Bel Aire in the parking lot, then left.
Damage amounted to about $100 to the right front fender, and Boudreau found glass from a stop light, pointing to a light blue 1949-52 Cadillac with a probably damaged left rear fender.
Chief Deputy Divorced In SA Superior Court
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Orange County District Attorney's Office
Chief Deputy DeWitte Chatterton today was divorced in Superior Court in Santa Ana.
Mrs. Virginia L. Chatterton of Santa Ana was granted the interlocutory decree on a mental cruelty claim.
Chatterton is now prosecuting Mrs. Frieda Dickson, accused of slaying her husband.
$1,175 Theft Reported In Building Equipment
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Approximately $1,175 worth of equipment was reported stolen from a tract area on Santa Rosalia in the Garden Grove area. Under construction are Pageant Homes.
Frank E. Happel Jr. reported to Sheriff's deputies the theft of dry-wall construction equipment.
Oil Damage In Homes Cause For Suit Filing
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — The National American Insurance Co. today filed a $151,000 law suit against Hancock Oil Co. for damages caused to 158 homes in the Los Alamitos area by smoke, smut, and oil from the Signal Hill fire last May 22.
The property owners reportedly all had fire insurance policies from the National American Insurance firm. The suit was in a document which contained 576 pages and which listed 153 causes of action. The suit was the largest ever seen here in the Santa Ana court house as to the amount of pages.
The plaintiff alleged that the smoke burned and unburned oil caused serious damage to many of the homes in this area.

Bid Awarded For Carbon Creek Flood Channel
The $858,415.50 bid of the Norco Construction Company to construct the Carbon Creek flood control channel was accepted yesterday over the next lowest bid of the Hane Construction Company, Long Beach, at $861,211.
A time limit of 350 consecutive calendar days has been set for completion of the job. Norco, located at 21123 Norwalk Blvd., Artesia, has recently completed a similar job in Fullerton.
The proposed channel extends from the Santa Ana Freeway to La Palma Ave., and then runs along La Palma where it terminates in the Flood Control District Basin in the vicinity of East St.
Approval of the project was expressed by Third District Supervisor Bill Phillipe. Supervisor Phillips has been an active worker in behalf of the proposed channel for many months.
YMCA Camp Osceola
YMCA Camp Osceola Meets Set for Youth
Youth from all sections of Anaheim will gather at the Anaheim YMCA, 121 S. Citron St., for two annual Camp Osceola sign-ups and rallies next Thursday and Friday April 29 and 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Boys will meet Friday afternoon April 30 for camp registration, swimming at the Anaheim Union High School pool, a wiener bake, and campfire program on the Y grounds. Boys' periods at the well-equipped Mountain Camp in the Barton Flats area, are set for July 4-11, August 1-8, and August 15-22, when the junior high boys will attend.
The camp program is open to boys nine through 15 years of age, regardless of Y club membership, William Hoover, Boys' Secretary stated.
A similar rally for girls, who will be in grades six through 12, will be held Wednesday, April 29 at the Y and school pool. A campfire program will follow the swim and wiener supper. According to Mrs. Nan Moore, Girls' Secretary, older girls will attend June 28-July 4, and younger girls August 8-15.
BP Housing Area Hit By Lock Burglar
BUENA PARK — It wasn't lock pickers who were active on a housing development earlier this week, but lock thieves, according to Buena Park police.
Ernest Donner, Long Beach, an employee of the Larwin Construction Co., reported to investigators that sometime between Monday and Wednesday, four homes were missing eight door locks and one light fixture, reports said.
The homes, two on Cathay Circle, two on Celeste Circle, are part of a tract nearing completion by the Larwin Co.
Valde of the missing items was reportedly $70.
