A best supporting nominee for her video role, Elinor's transformation into a teen-age floozy will come as a shock to her TV fans. Her television bosses aren't happy about the situation, and even Elinor has misgivings. "I'm hoping audiences won't recognize me as the Betty Anderson of television," the youthful actress said nervously. "Besides bleaching my hair, I wear cheap clothes and talk tougher than I do on TV." Complete Switch For Actress "The girl I'm playing is younger than Betty, but she knows more about life. She doesn't have Betty's self - assured poise, and she's not as well educated. It's a complete switch for me. "I really don't know if the people who do recognize me will ever believe in Betty again. We'll just have to wait and see." Elinor, a well - mannered, soft spoken 22-year-old behaves almost as if she were caught committing a crime on the set of MGM's "Girls' Town." "Maybe, if I'm lucky, the folks who watch 'Father Knows Best' won't see the picture," she said. "I'm playing to two different audiences. Our TV show is mostly seen by married people with younger children, and by older couples whose kids have already grown up. Directed Toward Teenagers "The picture is sort of slanted for teenagers. Not many of them stay home to watch television with the family." Elinor looks and acts younger than she is. Throughout the five-year run of the series she has played Betty Anderson two years younger than her real age. "I'm a little afraid of such a complete turnabout of character," Elinor said. "But it is a welcome change. Playing Betty for so long has made me question my acting ability. I do the role almost too naturally. "This movie might help me find other roles in pictures and dramatic television shows. But I don't have much time. We start shooting 'Father' again in a couple of months." Space Age Cause Of Bovine Loss to Farmer OKEMAH, Okla. (UPI) — The U.S. government paid A. L. Starkey $178.75 Tuesday for Bessie, a cow who died from eating a weather balloon. Starkey filed a $210 suit against the government last January after a veterinarian found parts of the balloon in the cow. "You can call Bessie a victim of the space age if you want to," Starkey said, "but-she was worth $210 and maybe more." Clues To Permian Age May Unfold By Sound LOS ANGELES, Calif.
