Goode, lives at 1501 South Pacific Dr., Fullerton, recently was promoted to specialist four in Germany where he is a member of the 9th Cavalry. Morris, a clerk in cavalry's Troop C, entered the Army in February 1958, received basic training at Ft. Ord and arrived in Europe the following July. The 19-year-old soldier is a 1967 graduate of Fullerton High School and attended Fullerton College. He was employed by Town and Country Men's Wear in Fullerton before entering the Army. Gerald E. LaHale, interior communications electrician 3-c, USN, son of Mrs. Alvina LaHale of 512 North Olive St., Orange, is serving at the Naval Station at Pearl Harbor. Army Pvt. Frank Grizzelle, 22-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Grizzelle, 1905 South Sycamore, Santa Ana, completed the final phase of six months active military training on April 1 under the Reserve Forces Act program at Ft. Eustis, Va. During the final phase, Grizzelle, received eight weeks of on-the-job training in the field of transportation. He is scheduled to spend the remainder of his military service with the 477th Transportation Company in Santa Ana. Grizzelle is a 1954 graduate of Santa Ana High School. He attended San Jose State College and is a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Before going on active duty, he was employed at Disneyland. Army Pfc James D. Dennle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Wayne, Army Pfc James D. Dennle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Wayne, 8911 MacAlpine Rd., Garden Grove, is a member of the "Downbeats," a musical combo composed of nine men from the 36th Artillery Group Band in Germany. Dennle, the drummer in the band, entered the Army last June, completed basic training at Ft. Ord and arrived in Europe last November. The 19-year-old soldier is a 1958 graduate of Rancho Alamitos High School. Pvt. Robert A. Monro of Company B, 9th Battle Group, 3rd Brigade, 1111 South Van Ness Ave., Santa Ana, is presently undergoing the first cycle of basic training at Ft. Ord. He is being taught such military subjects as first aid, dismounted drill, map reading, rifle marksmanship, and the fundamentals of infantry tactics. After completion of basic training he will be qualified to take advanced Infantry Training or enter a specialized course of Army instruction. Navy W. O. Harley Johnson Jr., whose parents live at 260 North Clark St., Orange, departed from Newport, R. I. on March 17 aboard the destroyer tender USS Yosemite for a tour of duty with the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean, while in the area, the Yosemite will maintain combat readiness of the destroyers attached to the Fleet. The tender is expected to return to the States late in July. Harold N. Holmberg, Brea, has reenlisted in the Army Ready Reserve program for three years in a Santa Ana unit, Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Batallion, 254th Infantry. 2nd Lt. Ray M. Johnson, 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Johnson, who live at 327 Jacaranda, Fullerton, is a member of the Ft. Stewart (Ga.) team which recently participated in the Third Army volleyball championship tournament at Ft. McClellan, Ala. Lieutenant Johnson, a platoon leader in the 32 Armor's Company B at Ft. Stewart, entered the Army in July 1957. He is a 1953 graduate of Fullerton High School and a 1957 graduate of California Baptist College. He was employed at Disneyland. 2nd. Lt. Ray M. Johnson, 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Johnson, who live at 327 Jacaranda, Fullerton, is a member of the Ft. Foster of $12 Rose Drive, Yorba Linda, was meritoriously promoted to his present rank at graduation ceremonies Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego on April 15. Men selected for this promotion award must display outstanding initiative, leadership qualities, discipline and learn their military well during the 11 weeks intensive recruit training. Prior to his four years enlistment, Foster attended Fullerton High School. He is now at Camp Pendleton undergoing four weeks of individual combat training. Upon completion, a 15-day furlough home then awaits him. Foster has been assigned to permanent duty there in administrative work. AMOS 'N' ANDY ANNIVERSARY HOLLYWOOD (UPI)—Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll, still working in radio as Amos and Andy, celebrated the 31st anniversary of their joint career the week of March 16-20 on CBS. Their actual first broadcast as the characters was March 19, 1928, over a Chicago station. A television receiver has about 760 parts — four times as many as a precision-built watch.
