Auto, truck, trailer and motorcycle salesmen in dealerships, agencies, lots, or other places where vehicles are sold to the general public, are required by a Vehicle Code law to register with an annual $10 fee payable to the State Department of Motor Vehicles, between May 1 and 31. A 100 per cent penalty set forth in the law doubles the fee if a renewal application is not filed on or before the deadline date. "The salesmen licensing law was enacted by the Legislature in 1957 as a measure to eliminate the fly-by-night or curbstone type of sales operation that was definitely harmful to the automotive industry," McCarthy stated. Conference Held to Aid Better Control of Air Over So. Calif. A step toward better control of the air spaces over Southern California was taken here last week when the Federal Aeronautics Authority got together in a conference with local Marine Corps authorities. The conference was to decide the future of the El Toro Radar Air Traffic Control Center. Present at the three day affair were representatives of the Federal Aeronautics Authority, as well as El Toro Operations personnel, headed by Col. E. H. Vaughan, Asst. CofS, G-3, MCAS, and personnel from the Chief of Naval Operations, headed by Capt. J. F. Voorhies, USN, of the Air Traffic Control and Air Navigational Aids Office. Included in the discussions were the manning and equipment of the El Toro Radar Air Traffic Control Center as well as the Associated equipment and antenna site on Pleasant Peak, with the joint operation target date set for March, 1960. With the joining together of the Federal Aeronautics Authority (FAA) and the Marine Corps here, to operate the Radar Air-Traffic Control Centers (RATCC), many of the hazardous operating problems involving military, commercial and general aviation in the Southern California area should be greatly relieved. The FAA will also provide personnel for the maintaining of the equipment facility located on Pleasant Peak. This equipment is located some 4,000 feet above sea level, where a microwave relay will provide the link between the antenna and the air operations control center located at El Toro, a distance of about 12 miles. This will give distance of about 150 miles to seaward, in addition to complete coverage of the Los Angeles basin. The three-day meeting covered all the problems of jointly manning the two locations. The meeting was conducted under the assumption that the FAA will operate all surveillance radar equipment for air traffic control and the Marine Corps operators will provide final approach guidance (precision and surveillance approaches within ten miles of the air station), plus operating Area Monitors and Quad Radar positions for monitoring altitude and bearing of arrivals and departures. Other problems decided on by the conference included: MCAS, El Toro's training considerations; determination of the operational concepts and control responsibility; equipment and plant layout; FAA and military staffing responsibilities; operational target date; determination of administrative responsibilities; and flight checks. Grove Stamp Club Tells Schedule of Meetings The Garden Grove Stamp Club was started approximately three weeks ago and has 25 members at present. There is no age limit. of the hazardous operating problems involving military, commercial and general aviation in the Southern California area should be greatly relieved. This equipment is located some 4,000 feet above sea level, where a microwave relay will provide the link between the antenna and the air operations control center located here at El Toro, a distance of about 12 miles.
