SECOND ANNUAL Robert Larsen To Be Speaker At SAC Day Robert Larsen, president of the Santa Ana YMCA, former member of the Board of Education and past president of the Santa Ana Kiwanis Club, will be the keynote speaker for the Santa Ana College Career Day on Thursday, April 23, at the vocational assembly in Phillips Hall at 11 a.m. The campus Circle K Club, sponsored by Kiwanis, is arranging the second annual Career Day to provide students with opportunity to hear and question successful business and professional people. The speakers are coming from the Kiwanis Club through arrangements made by Circle K President Barry Bosworth of Santa Ana and Faculty Adviser David Hartman. Following the assembly, five career seminars will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. on topics chosen in a student ballot. Among the section leaders will be: teaching, Assistant School Superintendent Glen Tabor; advertising - publications, Wilbur K. Smith, advertising agency owner, Santa Ana; engineering, Jack Fowler, civil engineer, assisted by a panel of four other engineers. Other sessions will be held for medical and trades. Student committees include: arrangements, Glen Pavock, Kent Saurman, Daye Kaech and Bill Hammond, all Santa Ana; advertising, Fred Estrada, Allen Hales and Allen Leonard, Santa Ana; speakers, Don Andersen and Bosworth. Catholic Daughters Hold Board Dinner With State Regent, District Deputy as Guests Officers and members of Court St. Benedict No. 1749, Catholic Daughters of America, had a busy evening when a board dinner was held prior to the business meeting. Guest of honor at the dinner, held at the Royal Coach Inn, was Mrs. Elsie Clancy, State Regent. Also in attendance was Mrs. Mary McDonagh, district deputy. Following the dinner the regular business meeting took place in the IOOF hall with Mrs. Leroy Kaump, grand regent, presiding The State Regent, Mrs. Clancy was again present, making her official visit to the Court. During her introductory speech Mrs. Clancy told members of the tremendous membership growth which the Catholic Daughters had seen in the 56 years since its inception. Court St. Benedict is one of a 124 courts in the State of California During the committee reports Mrs. Paul Montgomery, deaner, chairman, gave details on the Orange County Deanery meeting Mrs. Edward Krae announced plans for the annual communion Sunday on May 3. Members of the Court will attend 8 a.m., mass at St. Mary's Church, and afterward have breakfast at the Dinnerhorn Restaurant, Fullerton. Mrs. August Lipnisky told our plans for a bingo party to be held in her home; 2101 W. Oak Ave., Fullerton at 8 p.m. April 27. Reservations may be made by calling LA 6-7838. Miss Blythe is known for her work in the field of writing, many of her students from both day and night adult school receiving high recognition in national publications. Dr. Basil H. Peterson, president of Orange Coast College presented a lecture at the 21st annual convention of the California Society of X-Ray Technicians being held at the Statler Hotel in Los Angeles Dr. Peterson's talk, which he gave today, is on "Educating X-Ray Technicians in a California Junior College." Norma Wolfe, 7 daughter of Mrs. Wylie W. Wolfe of 160 S. Easy Way, Anaheim, has been admitted as a patient at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital to become straight and strong. Johnstone, division of education and psychology. Four units of upper division or graduate credit are offered for the tour portion — July 6 through Aug. 2 — of the six weeks' course. Those taking six units credit spend two weeks prior to departure on campus in study preparation. Cost is $595 plus college registration. $9.50 a unit. "We'll travel by air from Tijuana to Guadalajara; Oaxaca to Mexico City; and Acapulco to Tijuana." Johnstone states. "The rest of the trip will be by first-class cars." "We'll observe museums, historical monuments, public buildings, cathedrals, archaeological site, markets, industries, arts and crafts, etc., and still have time for exploring." Johnstone continues. Although a few persons not wanting credit will be accommodated, the primary purpose is to provide authentic content and first-hand experience to teachers, or teachers to be of Mexico in elementary and secondary schools," Johnstone adds. He has been handling the tour since 1953. A party of 35 will leave Montreal July 6 for a six weeks tour of Europe under the direction of Dr. Russel N. Squire, department of music. They'll visit England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France with optional extensions to Scandinavia and Spain. Six units credit is also offered. FJC Sets Wednesdqy For Polio Clinic The second on-campus polio clinic for Fullerton Junior College day and evening students has been set for Wednesday according to College Nurse Doris Elliott. For day students, polio innoculation shots will be given from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the College Health Center. Evening school students are to receive shots from 6:30 to 9 p.m. the same day. The students may receive any of four booster shots for one dollar. More than 500 students participated in the first clinic a month ago. David L. Willis, life science instructor at Fullerton Junior College, this week became the fifth FJC instructor to win a National Science Foundation grant. Willis received a full expense grant from the Foundation to attend an eight-week summer institute for college biology instructors at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Approximately 50 college teachers will be present for the institute to study latest developments and techniques used in biology instruction. This is Willis's third year at Fullerton JC. He makes his home at 628 Hawthorne St., Anaheim. Other members of the college faculty who already have received National Science Foundation grants are Leland Hollenberg, Joseph Hoffman, Betty Ribal and Herbert Drapkin. Grants for Hollenberg and Hoffman are full year study grants; the other three are for special summer work. Georgia chartered the nation's first state university in 1785. The date for the convention is Sunday. The site has been designated as Carpenters' Hall, 608 W. Vermont Ave., Anaheim, Calif. In addition to the business which will take place, a banquet is scheduled to be served at 5:30 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. To conclude the banquet, prominent personalities of Lulac as well as civic and social, also will address those present.
