C-2—Anaheim (CaL) Bulletin Thursday, April 16, 1959 New PR Firm Opens Orange County's newest public relations firm opened Wednesday in Anaheim. Located in Suite 108, Anaheim Law Building, the business is owned and operated by John M. Hughes. Designed to service political, financial, industrial and commercial accounts, Hughes' firm will afford clients a complete public relations program. Marketing, sales promotion, economic surveys, advertising, customer, employee and stockholder relations programs will be planned and executed by a group of affiliated specialists when required. Additionally, Hughes will provide all informational media services, including press, radio and television. Hughes entered the business, in its infancy as a copy boy with the New York office of United Artists Corporation in 1937. He also edited the Roosevelt County Herald News, a Montana weekly, and was a radio announcer with KGVO. Missoula, Mont. During World War II he served as a military intelligence operator in German prison camps for 31 months after being shot down in October, 1942. Following the war he was recalled to Army active duty during his junior year at Montana State University's Journalism School. He served as public information officer for Fort Ord, Camp Roberts and the California Military District. Presidio of San Francisco. He was medically separated because of WWII combat wounds in February, 1953. Hughes participated in public relations activities for such Army notables as General Mark W. Clark and General Albert C. Wedemeyer. He also handled an Army Reserve public relations program in California which served as a pilot for a national program which was awarded the Public Relations Society of America's Silver Anvil award for excellence.
