PTA Hears Talk on Discipline
"Parents desire love from their children, which is a normal desire, but many are sacrificing discipline and respect to gain that love," stated Judge Kenneth Morrison as he spoke at the Horace Mann Parent Earlier Association meeting in the school auditorium.
"Juvenile Delinquency has increased by ten per cent more than the normal percentage of increased population." Judge Morrison said. "Juveniles are held in the Orange County detention hall for crimes ranging from petty theft to murder." Judge Morrison added, informing the group that many of these offenders and their parents do not realize how near they are to losing their rights of citizenship.
Some of the crimes are of such nature that a judge could decide they should be tried as adults rather than in Juvenile Court." Judge Morrison said in closing.
Sharing the program with Judge Morrison were students from the three sixth grade classes at Horace Mann School. They presented a square dance demonstration, under the direction of their respective teachers; Mrs. Ruth Jones, Mrs. Clara Harmon, and Gerald Pettis.
Girl Scout Troop No. 18, under the leadership of Mrs. Claude Owens, led the flag salute. Participating were Pamela Lemmoq, Julie Armentroult, Margaret Drennan, and Leslie Owens.
Surprise of the evening was the presentation of an Honorary Life Membership to Mrs. Eric Weller, Tea Hostess for Horace Mann PTA, Mrs. James Griffith, President, conducted the meeting.
